Looks like I wasn't the only one to sniff that wind. Check out Item 1 in the list in the article atop this thread:
Can Josh Bolten Rescue the Bush Presidency?
In fact (as I jumped over to the original article while typing this post), skip the thread proper -- it's mainly a bunch of rah-rah/yay-team! noise, and worse than that, the "excerpting" of the article is more along the lines of editing the article. Read the actual article here -- Time Magazine: Can Josh Bolten Rescue the Bush Presidency?
By reading the original, you'll get the unedited "five points" (and again, focus on Point #1), as well as the rest of the article.
The edited version of the first point truncates more than half the text, including this enlightening comment from an insider: "Think of the visuals."
Yeah, think of 'em. All show, no go. Pure theater. Some things never change. As usual, the question boils down to, "Well, what do I have to tell you to convince you I'm sincere?" -- with the subtext being the unspoken, ("...because I'm really willing to say whatever it takes!")
You'll also get this key tidbit from the prelude to "the list", edited-out in the thread copy: "[T]he mission is just to hold on to control of Congress by playing to the base."
It's very thought-provoking, seems like they did their homework. They paint a very credible "long knives" scenario being played out.
Aside: I never realized that Rove was younger than me. Suddenly I don't feel so old...
