A song for Limbaugh's iPod (Neil Young's "anti-war" album) MEGA-BARFER
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | April 19, 2006 | RICHARD 'DOPEY' ROEPER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

A song for Limbaugh's iPod

The message scrolls ticker-tape style across the bottom of Neil Young's Web site:

"I just finished a new record ...a power trio with trumpets and 100 voices ... recorded earlier this month ... I think it is a metal version of Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs ... metal folk protest? It's called LIVING WITH WAR ..."

Rumors have circulated for weeks about Young recording an entire protest album in three days, including a single titled "Impeach the President." Word is it'll be released within a month or two.

I'm not sure how much of the music will make it to mainstream radio. Whether Neil Young is singing about politics or romance, there aren't a whole lot of stations playing new music by the legendary rock artists any more. I might not know Jack, but I do know he's not exactly controversial with his playlist.

That said, Young -- author of one of the greatest protest anthems of all time in "Ohio" -- is sure to get a ton of publicity for the album. You know Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and what's her name, the skinny blond shrew who hates hates hates hates HATES liberals, will have a field day railing about the old, Canadian hippie singer who has the temerity to call for the impeachment of our fearless leader.

I'm not campaigning for a Bush impeachment, but I am 100 percent behind anything that strengthens the burgeoning protest movement and heightens awareness of the quagmire in Iraq and how we got there.

Go Neil.

You have to wonder if Young not doing anything decent in twenty-five years has anything to do with that. At any rate, it looks like old Neil has jumped off the 9/11 wagon and is back to being the annoying Canadian that he always was; with Roeper's lips firmly planted on his ass.

Here's a song you should record Neil: "Keep on Rockin' In the Islamic World, but only If the Will Of Allah Permits It."

Last good song you did was "Downtown" you loser. You and your muttonchops, just take a freaking walk already.

Howard Stern had a skit where he was promoting an album called "Neil Young's Greatest Hits as performed by Neil Young's Cat" And it sounded no different from the man's own vocal stylings.

I don't know what's weirder - that I'm laughing at a Howard Stern joke or that I'm laughing at a Howard Stern joked posted by Borges, of all FReepers.

I must have missed Young's protest song when Saddam gassed the Kurds.

Doesn't one just love the celebs or alledged celebs. They are the last ones that should be writing about war; as they are no where even close to it. In other words, they have not a clue; but they will continue to live their selfish little lives which so far have not been effected one little bit by the war. I am sure enough of them don't even know a thing about Iraq. so they will continue their little meaningless and shallow lives trying to convenience the rest of us they mean or stand for something other than clueless or stupid.

Dana Carvey had a skit, this is every Neil Young song you've ever heard:

Dead dog lying in the ditch
Cigarette smoker, gets an itch

Run down whores with ancient vices
Target has the lowest prices

I'm getting higher
I'm getting higher

In the world.

He sure has come a long way from when he made the song "Lets Roll".

"Let's Roll" I know I said I love you, I know you know it's true, I've got to put the phone down, and do what we got to do. One's standing in the aisleway, Two more at the door, We've got to get inside there, Before they kill somemore. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. No time for indecision, We've got to make a move, I hope that were foregiven, For what we got to How this all got started, I'll never understand, I hope someone can fly this thing, And get us back to land. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. No one has the answer, But one thing is true, You've got to turn on evil, When it's coming after you, You've gota face it down, And when it tries to hide, You've gota go in after it, And never be denied, Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. Let's roll for freedome, Let's roll for love, We're going after satan, On the wings of a dove, Let's roll for justice, Let's roll for truth, Let's not let our children, Grow up fearfull in there youth. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll. Time is runnin' out, Let's roll.
