Hold Those 2006 GOP Obituaries (rising heartland rage over illegal invasion aiding Pubbies)
NY Post ^ | April 20, 2006 | DEBORAH ORIN

All of a sudden, Republicans have jumped ahead in some of the top 2006 election contests .......California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a solid re-election lead for the first time and Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer Lynn Swann has a real shot to be Pennsylvania's first black governor (statistically tied with Gov. Ed Rendell). In New Jersey, Tom Kean Jr. has edged ahead of Sen. Bob Menendez. Sen. George Allen (Va.) looks solid as a rock for re-election despite Democratic vows to rock his 2008 presidential dreams. Even No. 1 at-risk Republican Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) now trails by 9 points instead of double digits.

And Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton just hit a new low in 2008 support as only 26% nationwide say they'd definitely back her, while 41% say no way (all data from Rasmussen Reports.com, which accurately predicted the 2004 election).

--SNIP--

Two other key factors: The Bush economy looks pretty good, and there's a rising heartland rage over illegal immigration.

Good point ... sadly.

I have a few aquaintences, over the years, that owned restaurants. My ignorant bliss was shattered years ago. It hasn't gotten any better, I'm afraid, and I eat out very rarely and with much apprehension.

Thank the powers to be for Scotch whiskey. I am certain it has saved me from a fate worse than death many times over. ;)

"Where I live when it comes to employees all restaurants and fast food joints bar one are Mexican."

LOL!

Years ago, (1989) while driving my daughter from Ontario, CA to Florida, we stopped in Texas to get a burger at a McD's.

No workers were in the customer part of the store.

I peeked under the swinging (bar like) doors and the sight had me running for the car. My daughter never saw it because she stayed in the car.

In that two second look, I saw more garbage on the floor than anyone could possibly imagine, several filthy clothed employees and a sexual act in progress.

I am certain were one to visit the restroom, there would be a sign that said ... "Emplyees must wash their hands before leaving".

Need I say more about eating out?

Now if we could just get a Press Secretary who will kick crap out of the presstitutes from the Treason Media I will really be happy. A Rummy clone would be perfect.

We live in a time when any criticism of the President or the GOP will be taken up as a weapon against them by the Treason Media. Hence I react like a parent when a family member is attacked. Until we have destroyed the power of the Treason Media and the Party of Treason criticism does not stand alone.

And unfortunately we must bribe large segments of the electorate to support National Security as long as the foregoing situation exists. And until the education industry is out of Communist/pervert hands.

My fondest hope is to destroy the Party of Treason then split the GOP into conservative and more conservative components.

I fret a little, frankly. The issue could help the Republicans because the backlash is enormous, but it won't if they fall into the same trap as the Dems, only shooting off their mouths and providing no programs, no solutions. Nobody wants to go out on a limb and buck the Dial-A-Riot that the activists have constructed because it makes for poor posing in front of the Beltway cameras, but if the Republicans don't do something about this they're ceding the issue to the shriekers, and the Dems are better shriekers.

Non-entitlement spending has gone down, according to Tom Delay. We need to reduce entitlement spending bigtime. That is the fat!

How he said that with a straight face, I'd like to know. I agree about reducing entitlement spending, but introducing the biggest welfare state entitlement program since LBJ is not going to do it.

When it saves money in the long run, and not a small amount of savings, it is reduction in future spending. He explained it very well during an interview with Rush.

I have heard these kind of explanations before. The savings NEVER materialize. The Prescription Drug Bill was a bad idea from the beginning. Mike Pence and the RSC were right in opposing it.

It is, of course, early to put a whole lot of emphasis on the polls.

But, for what they are worth, it looks like we're ahead in NJ Senate race by about the same amount that they're ahead in the PA Senate race.

With or without poll numbers, we cannot be too confident about the RI Senate race.

They have possible pick-up opportunities in MO and OH, and we have possible pick-up opportunities in MD, MN and - if Tommy Thompson jumps into the race - WI.

I think this makes us just about even-up at this point.

There are, of course, other possibilities in the Senate races, but I have restricted myself to the most obvious. In the interest of time, I'll say the same thing is true for the Governor races, and that it too early to say anything about the House.

Assuming, as I do, good news on the economic front, and not terrible news on the war front, from here to election day, and I'd say I like our chances.

Book-marked. We shall see in a few years. If dims win in '08, we will be paying for everything. If that happens, this program will be canceled in lieu of FREE DRUGS for all. That will probably bankrupt us.

I'm sure those massive protests aren't helping the left, either.

I imagine illegal immigration would be a big issue in the Western states. Else where, the issue would be a non issue. There have been big pro-La Raza rallies here in Chicago. There hasn't been much outrage at them. President Bush's pro-guest worker plan really put the GOP in a pickle on the illegals issue.

I'm not really surprised.

I think Schumer's deal with the ports deal was to make people more aware of how alledgedly tough the Dems are on national security.

If this trend holds, then it didn't work for him. Darn.

Georgia isn't a western state, but we just passed the toughest anti-illegal law in the country.

Almost everyone I know, even hard-core lefties, is seething over the illegals. It doesn't matter where they are in the country.

Don't think so.....

Here in OK...many are fit to be tied over this issue.

I'm glad Sonny Perdue is actually using his majority to good use.

Here in Chicago, many Dem polticians attend the pro-La Raza rallies and tell the illegals that eeevil Republicans are out to get them.

The other intangible is an abortion ruling by the Supreme Court before the election. If it goes badly and the two new guys look more like Souters than Scalias, a lot of pro-life/social conservatives will abandon ship.

Are you serious ????? I mean your statement makes all those Liberal conspiracy theories seem true. Didn't you hear both Scalito and Roberts testify that they didn't discuss abortion with the White House. We cant now suddenly turn around and expect that they will tow the line on something that we made absolutely clear was never even discussed. Look for slow consistent reform in the right direction rather than a U-Turn.
