Grand Jury Investigation into Abortion Death Will Proceed as Petition is Successful

WICHITA, Kansas, April 19, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - George R. Tiller, one of the most notorious late-term abortionists in the U.S. is to face a Grand Jury investigation over the death of a girl following a botched abortion at his abortion mill.  A petition drive secured nearly three times the required signatures to proceed with an investigation.  The signatures were certified yesterday. Operation Rescue, the pro-life group which first exposed the death and led the way for an investigation, rejoiced that a Grand Jury would investigate the case.

Nineteen-year-old Texas teen, Christin A. Gilbert, died in January after a botched abortion at Tiller's Women's Health care Services.  Christin, who had Down's syndrome, was a victim of sexual abuse suffered in 2004.

While an autopsy report suggested there were severe deficiencies in the care Christin received from Tiller (http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/sep/05091608.html), the Kansas Board of Healing Arts cleared Tiller of responsibility in November 2005.  According to Operation Rescue president Troy Newman, the wife of the board president works for pro-abortion Gov. Kathleen Sebelius -- who in turn has received campaign contributions from Tiller.

Commissioner of Elections Bill Gale certified yesterday that the petition contained the signatures of 6,186 qualified Sedgwick County voters, nearly three times the amount required by a Kansas law that allows citizens to convene grand juries to investigate suspected criminal violations when counties fail to act.

The certified petition is asking the Grand Jury investigate a wide range of charges against Tiller in Gilbert's third-trimester abortion death, including second-degree murder and mistreatment of a dependent adult.

"We are ecstatic. There is now at least some hope that justice will be done on behalf of Christin and her viable pre-born child," said Newman. "I know that the members of Christin's family that we are in contact with are relieved that the process is proceeding."

"We have long awaited this day, when an independent Grand Jury that cannot be bought off with Tiller's blood money will conduct an impartial investigation into what is really going on behind closed doors at Tiller's abortion mill. It's high time that this man is held accountable for his actions that have caused untold misery and loss of life."

Just getting this butcher off of the streets would save hundreds of lives a year.

What kind of country do we live in if it takes a petition drive (secured nearly three times the required signatures to proceed with an investigation) to force a grand jury?

Life begins at conception—NOT birth.
Birth is one day in the life of a person who is already nine months old.

Why hasn't the Health Department raided the abortion mill and gotten him on violations? If they inspected these mills the way they do MANICURE PLACES, he would have been shut down ages ago.
