Sort of like the Iraqi bury-jets-in-the-desert trick.

Maybe the sub never left port.

Search away!

That is tiny.

#1 son is on the USS Ohio as we speak somewhere under the Pacific.

Agreed. The Swiss submarines are the quietest. Actually the whole Swiss navy is extremely quiet.

LOL!

If they're that close, there is a torpedo or a anti-ship missile headed your way - and they know EXACTLY where you are to launch it - no launch on bearing stuff.

Probably the best way to deal with it is active pinging from surface combatants. All the quite engines in the world won't hide you from that.

You should have told it to King Carl Gustav - but you are about 380 years too late. He almost got there, but got killed.

I once met a Captain in the Swiss Navy...I'm serious. I guess to defend against a surprise French naval attack across Lake Geneva.

the best for a carrier group to avoid a sub like this would be to maneuver at high speed in the open ocean. Diesel electrics may be quiet, but they can't keep up with surface ships. This would, of course be problematic in the Persian Gulf, where a submarine could simply find a likely spot and lie in wait for a high value target to pass by.

In event of conflict with Iran, i'd expect our carriers to stay out of the Gulf proper and launch any sorties from long range. Other ships that have no choice but to transit the Gulf will likely have a rough go of it.

US Navy has said that it would like to hire the Swedish submarine and crew for another year They could have gotten a Mexican sub, crew and anchor babies for a thousandth of the cost and an unlimited amount of time.

Q. Why does the new French Navy have glass bottomed boats?

A. To look at the old French Navy.
