Here's Don Carlos' simple solution to the "Immigrant problem".

Step One: Take Mexico's immigration law, translate it into english, change "Mexico" for the "United States Of America" in all appropriate places, and enact it into law as the "U.S. Immigration Law".

Provisions of the new U.S. Immigration Law, formerly the Mexican Immigration Law, include a two-year prison term for illegal entry into the United States; the expulsion from U.S. territory of any non-citizen at any time and for any reason at the pleasure of the U.S. Immigration Service; a written provision that immigrants and immigrant citizens of the U.S.A. will never have equal status and benefits compared to natural-born U.S. citizens, etc., etc.

Step Two: Begin the round-up.

Former Military installations will serve nicely as prisons for the illegals. Why go to the expense of making them feel at home in a modern U.S. prison country club? These unused installations were good enough for America's heroes. The new inhabitants should have no reason to complain.

I still have family there, and some of the crime stats are alarming. My Mom's family has lived there since the late 1800s (Dexter). I had always had visions of retiring there, but I'm not sure what it will be like by then.

if NM wants to go back to being part of a third-world hellhole instead of the most innovative on earth, be my guest.

Since they went for Bush in 2004 I would say they don't want to.

>>That would not help property values around here.<<

I too am a NM resident but I think nothing could harm NM property values right now as they have gone through the roof in recent years. I also own property in west Texas so I would suggest we give the Texas Panhandle to Mexico. It could only increase its property values.

I read just in the past day or so, here on FR, that such a law does take effect in July. It limits Medicaid and welfare benefits to those who cannot prove citizenship. School is still available, K-12, by SCOTUS ruling and the availability of the ER is not affected, as all ERs are mandated by law to accord treatment to anyone.

IIRC, this was an amendment inserted into a large bill, most likely the Budget.

Given the outcry so far from the left and the Catholic Church, it will be interesting to see this enforced. Even if it is, I would look for charity groups to open more free food pantries and to find MDs and Advanced Practice RNs to provide care in free clinics.

For some reason, the English language MSM is not commenting on this law or its effective date.

Another thing that those in control need to rethink is all the sanctuary cities. LA, along with many other cities, is a sanctuary city. The police are not allowed to ask if a person is illegal. The thinking, when this was put in place , was that the illegals wouldn't be afraid to come forward and report crime if they weren't worried about the INS. Meanwhile, INS (ICE now?) doesn't communicate with local authorities so nothing ever happens to illegals who are able to evade capture when crossing the border. If they get here (LA) they are pretty safe from deportation for just being illegal.

Mexicans better pray that the Marines don't take back the halls of Montezuma. And maybe the oil fields for dessert.

I guess my faith in the dominant press has been misplaced. And I should know better.

When they speak of New Mexico, they are talking of the area known as New Mexico under Spanish rule- when a good chunk of Texas, all of Arizona, part of Utah, Nevada, and Colorado- and I am not sure but i think it also included California originally,it was all known as New Mexico. They are not referring to the present day US state of New Mexico.

I live in the US State of New Mexico and I don't plan on becoming part of Mexico. I have heard very little of this type of talk here, and when you do it is either an illegal or a recent legal immigrant. Our hispanic population is made up mostly of people who are descendents of the Spanish colonists and natives. They are very patriotic people who are more loyal to the US than most people you will ever meet. A very large percentage serve in the military, and in fact many of the Bataan death march were from New Mexico.

I would agree to sending most of our politicians to Mexico, but this is really a wonderful state, and I don't want to be part of Mexico.

I am not willing to give them one square inch. If they want Mexican Wer II, then we need to keep all of Mexico this time around.

I've lived in NW NM - the Four Corners region - most all my life. Wonderful country - God's Country, if you would. Yeah, the politics in NM smack of crooked much of the time, but you could say that 'bout most of the U. S. of A., if'n you'd a mind to. Onc't we get rid of Bill Richardson - wants to be Prez, he does - we'll feel much better.

I dare say, like most of the rest of Americans, the citizens of NM are loyal to the Red, White, and Blue. Those that fly the Green, White, and Red are idiots, and not taken very seriously by any of us outside the Rio Grande Corridor. Santa Fe is Lost Territory, but no one respects The City Different, anyhow.

Long Story Short.........don't give up on this part of the country. We're fightin' our part of the battle, too.
