education advocates who wanted to include textbooks that address the needs of English learners

I've been noticing this new "English learners" newspeak showing up in news stories lately. Somebody somewhere must have focus-grouped "Spanish speakers" and found out that it didn't play well. "English learners" implies that they're on their way to assimilation, which is the furthest thing from the goals of the radicals who think it's suppressing their culture to teach kids in English in the schools.
