As usual, negative stories about Mother Sheehan are only to be found in the local papers. This one is from her erstwhile home town (for a few years, anyway) the Vacaville Reporter:
Sheehan Refuted
Director rebuts 'Peace Mom's' story
By Julie Kay/Staff Writer
A Vacaville funeral home owner took exception to "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan's allegation that his mortuary did not fulfill its duties after her son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.
In her blog last week, Sheehan wrote that the mortuary had refused to pay the cemetery as it was supposed to. Steve Nadeau, the mortuary's owner, said Monday that not only did he properly pay the cemetery, but that he subsidized the process with his own money.
Nadeau read Sheehan's comments in The Reporter Sunday, in a story about Sheehan's defense of her decision not to put a headstone on Casey's grave. Sheehan had described her choice at length in the same blog entry that mentioned Nadeau's Funeral Home.
The Reporter called Nadeau Friday and left a message at his office seeking his comments.
Nadeau returned the call and left a message saying he would be unavailable until Monday.
In an e-mail sent to The Reporter Sunday, Nadeau expressed hurt and disbelief at Sheehan's comments. He said that the amount of money the military gave the mortuary for Casey's funeral service and cemetery arrangements didn't even come close to covering the costs.
"Several kind citizens made donations," said Nadeau. "I absorbed the rest."
This was not the only way in which he went above and beyond his responsibilities following Casey's death, said Nadeau. He also provided a stretch limousine and a driver at his expense, he said, and invited the family to go to the airport with him so that he could accompany them. None of this was required, said Nadeau.
"Having known the Sheehan family for many years through St. Mary's Catholic Church where Ms. Sheehan had previously been the youth director, it was my desire to provide care and dignity to Casey and the family. I did this in every respect."
Nadeau also refuted Sheehan's statement that the mortuary finally paid the cemetery only after the family threatened to bring the story to the media.
"This never happened," said Nadeau. "I would stop by the family home as I do most families' homes and check with them on necessary needs, etc."
Nadeau said the military provided his mortuary $5,736 in funding to pay for the funeral service and cemetery arrangements. The funding came in May 2004, said Nadeau, and he paid the cemetery as soon as the costs had been totaled and the donations received.
In a phone call Monday, Sheehan stood by her allegations. Sheehan also said that Casey's grave site was now being handled by her soon-to-be ex-husband Patrick.
Patrick Sheehan said Monday that the small plaque currently marking Casey's grave is something all graves receive before a headstone is constructed. Casey's headstone is in the works, he said, and is being built by a local monument company.
Isn't it beautiful? The community and Mr. Nadeau covered much of Mother Sheehan's expenses, and she still has to trash them and lie about them.
Army Maj. Gen. Rodney Kobayashi presents the Purple Heart and Bronze Star to Cindy Sheehan Tuesday, April 13, 2004, during a funeral service for her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan 24, in Vacaville, Calif.
No, she isn't crazy.
Not much.
By someone in the remaining family?! Is this another area where Cindy Sheehan has dropped the ball - perhaps deliberately?!
What is also interesting about that page of the divorce filings is that Patrick Sheehan is asking for SPOUSAL support.
He knew/knows how much Cindy is raking in and wants his cut.
Yep her new found fickle friends love the Deserters up until they get convicted at Courts Martial. Then they drop them like a hot rock and move on to the next dupe.
I would think so. It is clear that the idea that $5600 is clearly too little is disingenuous unless Cindy went all out on a casket or something equally extravagant. Costs can add up quickly for a funeral and often the family is in no position to thoughtfully consider financial matters in the heat of decision-making. I have always believed one should have an advisor not so emotionally involved accompany the family in making funeral decisions.
"She'll never command more than a few grand in speaking fees ever again after the stuff she's said."
You'd think. But you're mistaken.
She gets quite a lot and she is in demand. (Two trips to Hawaii, just in the last four months.)
She has no money worries at all. She is quite rich now.
Then you probably haven't heard that John Kerry served in Vietnam.
In a way, I do feel sorry for her. She's not bright enough to understand how she's being used. She has no friends left, only parasites who stand near her so that their rants can also make the news. When her issue goes away, what do you think will happen to her? Not that I care, she makes me sick. Another liberal using her child for political purposes. She will probably be a candidate for suicide when the attention goes away.
Not quite so. She apparently has IRS problems.
"Not quite so. She apparently has IRS problems."
No, she used to have IRS problems:
Cindy Wont Pay Taxes | Sweetness & Light
http://www.sweetness-light.com/archive/cindys-list-of-demands/
To wit, she had two liens on her property. But both have been cleared, the last apparently thanks to Casey's death benefits.
Mother Sheehan has since vowed that she will no longer pay any taxes. I don't know if she is holding to that pledge.
But she operates a 501c3 tax-exempt "charity" for her own personal benefit and uses it to campaign in violation of all IRS regulations.
So I think she will probably get away without paying any further taxes.
Wasn't she yammering last year that she was using her sons death benefits to be in Crawford? Then we found out that Moore, Kerry and Soros were supporting her?
Wow. I knew she was a mess, but I wouldn't have believed that she'd lie about the (caring and compassionate) funeral director (who went above and beyond for Casey's family) had I not read it here. Holy smokes. Her friends must not like her much, either, otherwise they'd keep her from doing and saying things like this.
Yes, funerals are very expensive in California. I paid $8,800 for my husband's and it was nothing elaborate, and my parents paid for the coffin on top of that.
Not that I defend Cindy Sheehan at all, she is in my opinion a sick person and is making a fool of herslef with the media hype.
Agree. The saying that the politics is personal works the other way also. Personal is political and personal friendships live only so long as political advantages are there. Her fame has lasted longer than it should and that means her eventual fall will be harder. I believe she is holing up right now in Berkeley but who knows how long her Berkeley friends will remain true. Problem is, her notoriety isn't fungible. She only has one horse to ride on (Casey's death) and when it dies of exhaustion, she's afoot, lugging a saddle.
I think this speaks loads more on the Sheehan family than anything else; that they wouldn't fork up enough money to bury their own son who died a hero! What a pathetic family of @ssholes they all are! No wonder Casey enlisted!
I see the divorce papers have item 6a mismarked.
And her new car...
Didn't know about her car.
