As usual, negative stories about Mother Sheehan are only to be found in the local papers. This one is from her erstwhile home town (for a few years, anyway) the Vacaville Reporter:
Sheehan Refuted
Director rebuts 'Peace Mom's' story
By Julie Kay/Staff Writer
A Vacaville funeral home owner took exception to "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan's allegation that his mortuary did not fulfill its duties after her son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.
In her blog last week, Sheehan wrote that the mortuary had refused to pay the cemetery as it was supposed to. Steve Nadeau, the mortuary's owner, said Monday that not only did he properly pay the cemetery, but that he subsidized the process with his own money.
Nadeau read Sheehan's comments in The Reporter Sunday, in a story about Sheehan's defense of her decision not to put a headstone on Casey's grave. Sheehan had described her choice at length in the same blog entry that mentioned Nadeau's Funeral Home.
The Reporter called Nadeau Friday and left a message at his office seeking his comments.
Nadeau returned the call and left a message saying he would be unavailable until Monday.
In an e-mail sent to The Reporter Sunday, Nadeau expressed hurt and disbelief at Sheehan's comments. He said that the amount of money the military gave the mortuary for Casey's funeral service and cemetery arrangements didn't even come close to covering the costs.
"Several kind citizens made donations," said Nadeau. "I absorbed the rest."
This was not the only way in which he went above and beyond his responsibilities following Casey's death, said Nadeau. He also provided a stretch limousine and a driver at his expense, he said, and invited the family to go to the airport with him so that he could accompany them. None of this was required, said Nadeau.
"Having known the Sheehan family for many years through St. Mary's Catholic Church where Ms. Sheehan had previously been the youth director, it was my desire to provide care and dignity to Casey and the family. I did this in every respect."
Nadeau also refuted Sheehan's statement that the mortuary finally paid the cemetery only after the family threatened to bring the story to the media.
"This never happened," said Nadeau. "I would stop by the family home as I do most families' homes and check with them on necessary needs, etc."
Nadeau said the military provided his mortuary $5,736 in funding to pay for the funeral service and cemetery arrangements. The funding came in May 2004, said Nadeau, and he paid the cemetery as soon as the costs had been totaled and the donations received.
In a phone call Monday, Sheehan stood by her allegations. Sheehan also said that Casey's grave site was now being handled by her soon-to-be ex-husband Patrick.
Patrick Sheehan said Monday that the small plaque currently marking Casey's grave is something all graves receive before a headstone is constructed. Casey's headstone is in the works, he said, and is being built by a local monument company.
Isn't it beautiful? The community and Mr. Nadeau covered much of Mother Sheehan's expenses, and she still has to trash them and lie about them.

No, she isn't crazy.
Not much.

Do you mean to tell me that the Sheehan family did not pay the expenses for a proper burial of their son!! You mean to tell me that this family relied on donations to bury their son!! Oh my gosh. I am speechless.
Dear Mr. Nadea:
In the law, we have a name for Ms. She-hag's statements. We call it LIBEL. And I wonder if she's reported those "donations" to the IRS.
I'd get banned if I said what I really think about this monstrous POS calling itself a mother.
She is a real "piece of work".
Cindy who??
I've heard of *Casey* Sheehan, a war hero who gave his life so that others could enjoy the freedoms we in America have, but who is this "Cindy" person you speak of???
Probably some fly-by-nighter, out looking for a buck, I guess.
/sarc off
5,736 bucks for a funeral is not enough ?
What she's not blaming Bush for this? (sarc)
Yes, that is a lot of money for a funeral. So how much could the funding gap possibly have been? A couple of grand? And they couldn't pony up the money to properly bury their son and give him a headstone?? What an absolute disgrace. And yet Sheehan thinks nothing of using her son's name and bravery for her own personal, selfish ambition. Yes, that is sick - literally.
How'd you like to have this piece of work as the youth director for your kids at church?
I think I'd be looking for another congregation.
Especially in view of what she is raking in. She is reported to get $30,000 an appearance. She has two book deals. A movie deal (starring Susan Sarandon). She has her own personal 501c3 tax-exempt "charity" for which she and others (including Sarandon) have done "benefits"...
She is now a millionaire many times over. And she can't even pay for her own son's funeral?
(Not to mention that she got a couple hundred thousand from his death benefits.)
WHY NOT, SHE HAS BEEN USING HER BRAVE SON'S COFFIN AS HER PERSONEL SOAP BOX.
If I remember correctly from last summer, Sheehan was fighting with Hubby over a headstone and SHE had control of the gravesite. This was after Mister filed for divorce. That's why the article says: " Sheehan also said that Casey's grave site was now being handled by her soon-to-be ex-husband Patrick."
It's a fair amount, even in California. I handle probate cases where we process funeral creditor claims and $5600 is an average funeral here in the California Central Valley where Sheehan also resided. Also, about the time of Sheehan's funeral, I purchased a headstone for my son. It was flush with the ground, in keeping with cemetery rules, but it only cost about $600 for a 2x3 stone with intricate carvings and installation included.
Sheehan has been caught not properly grieving her son and she is trying to deflect the blame to anyone but her. Pathetic but if she loses her fame here, what has she left? Her family? Her community? Her new-found fickle friends? Her personal magnetism? Maybe the only she could live on is by selling autographs she collected from famous liberals. And we know how long that would support her.
No, in some ways I feel very sorry for her. I think she is running scared right now--scared of being left in the ditch again without a single camera pointed at her. She deserves it but I feel some pity for her--or maybe it's just indigestion. ;o)
Since the body is prepared for burial by the military, shouldn't the cost be less than the average funeral?
Just asking...
She and her buddies have divided the loot of several hundred grand in donations they've gotten, they've also gotten tons of free plane tickets, hotel suites, meals, etc.
In terms of hard cash left over after nonfungible gifts like vacations, she's probably burning through it now and will be flat broke in two or three years.
She'll never command more than a few grand in speaking fees ever again after the stuff she's said.
She won't be on the convention and corporate meeting circuit - she'll be taking a smaller fee from university socialist groups. Maybe another book deal, but it's unlikely.
