I find this confusing, especially from a British Historian. There are all manner of Templar properties in England and Scotland,including the Temple Church in London.
I think the author is using “first” interchangeably with “earliest,” here.
Not to hijack this thread since you mentioned Scotland. I visited Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness once. It’s a preservation area. Nobody knows who built it. Was it built by one of the old Clans? That fiord has good fish in it and is a fine swimming hole. After hanging your clothes on the berry bushes and climb over some rocks. The air and water temp is the same there. I proved that Nessie isn’t interested in biting pee-pees off.
