RUSSIA: Khodorkovsky attacked by another convict (his face cut)

Russia’s jailed tycoon, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, was attacked by another convict, Khodorkovsky’s lawyer announced. A young prisoner with whom the former oligarch and ex-CEO of YUKOS used to share dietary, plank bed and even a place in the lockup, tried to cut off Khodorkovsy’s nose by using a sharp spoon. The lawyers say the convict warmed his way in Khodorkovsky’s confidence to kill him. As to the Federal Prison Service, they don’t doubt it was just an ordinary brawl of two prisoners. The statement of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's lawyer, Yury Schmidt, that his client was attacked early April 14, had a penetrating wound and was hospitalized was the hot news of nearly all world agencies past weekend. It turned out later on the wound of Khodorkovsky wasn’t tragically penetrating and it was treated by the medical attendant at Krasnokamensk penal colony, where once Russia’s richest man is serving his eight-year sentence.

“Mikhail Borisovich woke up because of the violent pain in the face” roughly at 5:00 a.m. Friday, said another lawyer of Khodorkovsky Natalia Terekhova. “He touched his face. Having felt it was wet, he switched on the light and looked at himself in the mirror. He saw the blood and woke up the household manager, who called an operating officer on duty at colony.”

Khodorkovsky was attacked by his neighbor, Kuchma, 23, who was condemned for petty stealing. The weapon was the sharpened stem of the spoon. Kuchma said he wanted to poke an eye out of Khodorkovsky but his hand trembled in the last moment.

Khodorkovsky declined to submit a complaint, saying Kuchma “didn’t know what he was doing.”

Yeah, he was the only one to challenge Putin & Co, and he is going to be probably killed soon..

BTW, Putin is funding HAMAS and other terrorists, in the same league as Saddam news.

I think it should be put under "foreshadowing news", myself. If you don't think Hillary Clinton is going to start jailing dissidents when she takes the presidency, you haven't been following her too carefully. Look, I'm against the PATRIOT Act as much as any other classical conservative with respect for our Constitution. We need to be very careful what new powers we give the POTUS in this climate of fear because it may come back to haunt us. Heck, its bad enough that she'll have the extra-constitutional RICO statutes at her disposal. That law will be instrumental in breaking-up and arresting leaders of conservative American Christian groups.

Yeah, right, everyone in GULAG was "convicted criminal" (kulak in that case)

Think before you type..

BTW, where do you think Putin got his money from? He is as guilty as any other "oligarch".
It's just some "oligarch" get soccer teams others their faces cut.. guess wich one was against Putin?

Yeah, he was the only one to challenge Putin & Co, and he is going to be probably killed soon.. ==

He is just robber baron and corruptioneer. He was put in prison for his crimes for too short term(8 years). In US he surely should get 100 years in prison like those ENRON executive officers.

If you defend such scum like Khodorkovsky it shows what the person yourself. Russian proverb says: "Tell me who is your friend and I tell you who you are".

Give me a break! There are many "robber barons" like him around Putin - Abramovich, Potanin etc. But why _NONE_ of them are in jail?

You can spread your KGB propoganda somewhere else, comrade!

They are robber barons too. Putin punished one of them. I like it and I just wish that he will do something about others.

So, don't you find interesting that "robber barons" were divided in to friends and enemies???

Friends were allowed to do business, even be governors etc?

Yeas I know it. ANd i don't like it too.

But the fact that there are other scums doesn't make such scum as Khodorkovkii as a honest man, is it right?

Yes, It doesn't, and it also shows that other rich new russians in the same basket - from Abramovich to Putin with his watches, yachts and cars.. and with billions of dollars from YUKOS and other companies.
