Bullshit. If they faced a significant penalty they WOULD learn to identify forgeries or hire someone who could. We're not talking about them scanning thousands of credit apps. We are talking about a small company trying to hire a few people.
it would certainly weed out a goodly number of them. Right now it's wink wink nod nod and no penalty and lots of benefit.

Very true. Companies, even small ones, spend money to hire accountants to make sure they follow the tax laws. They hire safety consultants to make sure they follow the OSHA laws. It's the cost of doing business.
