I would love to hear some host somewhere, pull up all the arm chair commentary of these paleo-generals during the start of the war when they were predicting us not even getting to Baghdad, having tens of thousands of causalities, and being humiliated..

Actually, Barry Mccaffery offered that he had been wrong about the "Battle for Baghdad," still thought the number of troops was too little at the time, but was optimistic on the future of Iraq.

Some of the generals were not retired and participated in that war. I think that gives them a better right than it does us who weren't there to try and offer insight.
I believe they earned the right to express their opinions, whether or not we agree with them.
