When Republicans fail to pass tough immigration laws, what they're doing is this: they're courting the votes of NON-citizens more eagerly than the votes of CITIZENS.

How many here think it plausible that if naturalized the new "Americans" would vote Republican instead of for the party mostly likely to back nationalized healthcare, etc?

Of course, that's completely implausible. In fact, Republicans risk NOTHING by toughing their stance against illegals. It's akin to Democrats fearing the "loss" of the Mormon vote over their liberal stance on gay marriage; the Mormon vote was never theirs....

But Republican leaders will hide under their bed from the monster of angry illegal alien voters. So current citizens will simply NOT vote for Republicans. And so Republican leaders will actualize the defeat that they live in fear of.

Looking at history it was the Republicans that freed the slaves and we see how many blacks vote Republican don't we. You gain nothing in absolute terms by pandering to a population. The republicans lost the black vote over the next 100 years because of its stance on issues. When it comes to politics people have a short term memory. It's what have you done for me lately. The Latinos are not going to say 40 years from know I vote republican because they allowed my grandparents amnesty. They are going to vote on the issues of the day.
