I went to school with a girl whose name was Princess Couch. At least they didn't name her Comfy or Cozy or Sofa.

You don't like the name Savage? I do. Some people call me Savvy.

My poor mother--some people called her Oldie, some Saxie.

Thanks for the update - though I still say that for an odd-namer, Mr. Hogg (dare I say 'Boss Hogg') had more wit and intelligence when he gave Ima her name than any of the present Hollyweird crowd.

Happy Easter

"However, I can tell you must not have grown up with an odd name. I had an unfortunate last name."

I recognize that having a name that’s easily twisted into an insult is a liability, but that’s not the case with the names Apple, Moxie or Moses.

I knew a guy in junior and senior high in SE Texas who was well liked, unassuming, and exceptionally athletic (but not big, about 5-10 and maybe 175lbs) named Richard Head. At the time I didn’t even know Richard was short for Dick, but if I did, I would have stuck up for the guy. He was a full blooded American Indian and rumored to be exceptionally fearless and brutal in a fight. So even the few that didn’t like him weren’t stupid enough to call him Dick Head. I suspect most kids took more crap from name games than Richard, but I recognize that most would have been absolutely crippled by his name.

Hollywood baby names like Pilot Inspektor, cooked up by Jason Lee, the star of "My Name Is Earl," or Banjo, the inspiration of the "Six Feet Under" star Rachel Griffiths, or Moxie CrimeFighter, a name chosen last year by the comedian and magician Penn Jillette for his daughter.

Are they truly insane?! "Moxie Crimefighter?!"

Your mother's name is literally "Old Saxon", or the origin of the name is Old Saxon?

It was of Old Saxon origin. I was responding to a joke made by stands2reason (post #86). That's all.

Thank you. I'm starting to think (and feel) we may see her any day now. Unfortunately, I'm still working, but not 100% convinced I'll even make it through the day today!

You can't drink spunk, gumption and wherewithal. Well maybe spunk, but this is a family-friendly board.

What passes for celebrity in this nation bores the hell out of me.

Ditto for me, FRiend. I care if their movie or music is good or bad and could not care less about their personal lives. The whole "celebrity culture" mystifies me.

The only time I care is when they voice anti-American views from their 'private' lives. As if that's the way those views will be portrayed.
