I actually think this is close to the same treatment that President Lincoln had but on a proportional scale.

Educate me. Did the generals campaign against Lincoln's reelection? Did they call for the resignation of the Secretary of War or the President? I know that there were "political generals" appointed by the President and that in some cases had little or no background in military matters, but rather were professional politicians.

He had a couple of generals who made a habit of trashing him to the press early on, and I can't remember whether it was his Secretary of War or his Secretary of State who joined them...but later came around to support Lincoln. This was smack in the middle of the civil war.

Well, if you consider all of the senior officers who were generals during Lincoln's presidency, some of those who served in his army at the start of his term ended up taking up arms against him before his reelection.

It took 500,000 lives to settle that little political disagreement.  And as I mentioned in my post to CWOJackson, they were Democrats then, too.

"Educate me. Did the generals campaign against Lincoln's reelection?" General George B. McClellan (former commander of the Army of the Potomac) was the Democratic presidential candidate in 1864.
