Like I posted a while back about the first pass at the Spector bill - it was designed to be a first try that failed. My guess is that the political classes are being surprised at the depth of the concerns that are bubbling to surface. Immigration is _the_ issue that will decide the next election nationwide. If the Republicans don't handle this right, it will mean the Senate and the House.

I think you're right. Wow, what chaos if the House and Senate went to the Dims, with Bush in two more years, then can you imagine what insanity '08 would be under those circumstances?
But if the Senate and House go Dim in '06, does that guarantee amnesty because the Dims will pass it and Bush will sign it? Or will it guarantee no amnesty because the Dims won't want Bush to get credit for it?

The hispanic vote has a history of being very pro-democrat. If the Republicans grant amnesty, citizenship, and voting rights to more than 12 million illegals, either the Republican Party will become completely socialist or the Republicans will permanently lose the House and the Senate.
