Politics is the art of the possible. Having a small majority means you have control of the agenda and therefore get to propose things to explore if they are possible.

It does not mean you get to decide what is possible.

Those who want less government spending . . . fine. Propose what you think is possible and can get enough votes to prevent filibuster.

Those who want capital punishment of any illegal alien, go ahead and propose it and see if it escapes filibuster -- or even garners a GOP majority.

Having the majority gives you control of the agenda and allows you to attack and because you're on the attack you get to win a initiatives now and then. You get conservative justices. You get erasure of the assault weapons ban.

If you don't have the majority you are on the defense all the time and initiatives you oppose will get through now and then. You'll get don't ask-don't tell. You'll get Ginsberg. You'll get to pay for midnight basketball.

Winning matters. Always. No exceptions.

>>>Winning matters. Always. No exceptions<<<

If the people who run the White House really believed that, our borders would have been secured, starting on 9-12-01.

Who, pray tell, would have argued against that?

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Creating same sex marriage amendment? Check. Flag burning legislation? Check. No abortion limits? Check.

Between now and the November elections, Democrats are penciling in plans to take action on social issues important to secular belief liberals, the foundation of the Democrat base, as they try to once again steal an election to regain power."

Much better.

The only ting I remember the GOP doing was to secure Alito's appointment.

You get erasure of the assault weapons ban.

They did not erase anything, the sunset clause kicked in and it expired. Not quite the same as repealing some of the gun laws on the books, imo, which is something I'd like to see, right back to the NFA of '34.

I don't know how it will effect the vote, but the border will be the biggest issue on the '06 and '08 public agenda.

Republicans pander to illegals at their own peril. Someones giving them bad advice inside the Washington Beltway.

If they thing the illegals marching in the streets is a sign of majority public opinion, they are sorely mistaken.

The only "Core" issue any professional politician has is getting re-elected. Except for a VERY few in each party the only difference between them is differences in which groups they pander to. The VERY few Republicans OR Democrats of principle are often ridiculed or sidelined.

"The purpose of this article is to remind areligious independents and Democrats that they should never vote for a Republican."

Yes, exactly. Like it or not, the Republicans are allowing themselves to be defined by, and spoken for, by CNN.
