From my reading of it, the GOP has a LOT of work to do...

Alright, the onslaught of demands from the many different "cores" of the GOP begins.

Republicans are penciling in plans to take action on social issues important to religious conservatives
After nearly 12 years in the majority and 6 years with a unified government and they are only now beginning to take action on issues important to religious conservatives? Who have they been working for this last decade? They should have a plethora of conservative issues on the agenda by now.

"Republicans are penciling in plans to take action on social issues important to religious conservatives"
It seems to me that they should be using ink not pencil. Oh, and I don't mean the erasable kind. Amen.

"They should have a plethora of conservative issues on the agenda by now."Not the least of which is the end of the income tax.
If Republicans want to remain in the majority and send their base a message that will be heard and echoed at the polls in November, now is the time to put an end to the income tax.

Since I just did my tax return yesterday I'd say the GOP has many "Core" issues they need to address before November.

The republicans had better concentrate on border security and deporting illegal mexican aliens. 2006 is a one-issue election. If I get sold out by rino senators I won't vote for them. I'll write in a name or vote for a third-party candidate.

"Guns, what real men want for Christmas."Be careful what you wish for; one year I told my teenage daughter and wife that anything in a long narrow box labeled "Browning" would be fine for me.
My daughter gave me a long narrow box that contained a letter opener engraved with the word, BROWNING.
From my experience, your tag line might be more accurate if rephased; I would suggest:
"Guns, what real men give their children for Christmas."

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
Oh can't you see You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you.

"Guns, what I give my kids for their 16th Birthday."
And they know how to use them.

Yes, while the Grumpy Old Party dawdles, they allow CNN to speak on their behalf.

I think the conservative social agenda has been moving in a positive direction, but it's nothing earth-shattering or revolutionary. It's everything ELSE I'm having a big problem with.
This is nothing more than election year pandering in a year when "Republican" "policy" has spiraled downward into "damage control".
Call me cynical.

Yes sir, the borders may be wide open, the boomers' retirement is about to explode the federal budget, and Iran's got nukes, but as long as you can go to jail for burning an American flag, our future is safe.

RE Tort Reform and Energy Policy -- Well I don't know the answer.
But RE Social Security Reform, what happened is this -- The President took point, and lead the way. He was then attacked on every side, by libs of every stripe, with claims of everything from "stealing from old people" to "destroying FDR's legacy".
And republicans ran for cover, leaving the President exposed. The President alone, and unable to move forward, retreated.
That's What Happened, and so now the problem sits cooking until someone else dares to handle something that's hot.

Right. Immigration, the Problem that has No Solution. None. I honestly beleive that Jesus Christ Himself couldn't solve it, and if He tried, they'd crucify Him.
To: OKSooner
CNN never speaks for the GOP. The purpose of this article is to remind areligious independents and Democrats that they should never vote for a Republican.
