KSDK-Two days before a big immigration reform rally in downtown St. Louis, a prime mover of the event was arrested and set for deportation.
Cecilia Velasquez was arrested in 2000 as she crossed the U.S border from Mexico, and refused to leave the country. In April of 2003, she was arrested again, following a complaint about her immigration status. Court records show she fought her deportation until August of 2005, and even went to the U.S. Court of Appeals, where she lost, and was found to be deportable.
Friday, her lawyer says she was sent to Mexico.
Velasquez is on the business license for a Spanish language newspaper published in south St. Louis, and was active in the Latino community. Her newspaper, "Red Latina", which means Latin Network, heavily promoted last week's immigration rally. One of her supporters says the timing of her deportation is not just a coincidence, and she was targetted by the government.
A spokesman for I.C.E., the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency of Homeland Security, denies any agenda, saying the arrest and removal is purely a coincidence.

I sure hope she was, as should asny leader of these "demonstrations" should be who are HERE ILLEGALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These illegal aliens call the guest worker program by it's proper name - AMNESTY (Amnistia)
One down, only about 22 million to go. Only problem is she will be back next week.
Yes!
The pests impossible to get rid of should at least be sterilized.
And meanwhile I saw other protestors carrying signs declaring "We are not criminals". Interesting. Why would someone who is not a criminal need to ask for amnesty?
The double meaning of it is probably precisely what attracted her to that name.
If we spent as much as we did exporting this woman for 11 million more we would go broke. Arrest them , be sure they are illegals and send them home. all these appeals are BS.
So? This is treacherous? Since she drew a high level of attention to herself, we were somehow HONOR BOUND to ignore her?
I don't get it.
The coincidence being that she was in our country illegally and the ICE was actually doing their job that day.
Any foreigners involved in public protests in Mexico are removed from the country in 24 hours. Civil Rights activists from Europe and the USA video tapped in manifestations in Chiapas, showing support to the Zapatistas and dissent to the gov't for their practices were deported. That's the way it is done here in Mexico, our Restrictions to stay in the country is to stay out of politics.
LOL, yeah, apparently she never heard "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". Even the Mexican government, in the travel guide to the U.S. which they pass out to illegals, tells them not to attract attention to themselves.
Our one greatest hope is that more of our opposition are this stupid.
Good grief! It took five years to deport this witch. We've got to speed up the deportation process and then be sure to keep them from returning. I wonder how many thousands we wasted on lawyers in those five years?
Like death row appeals, we wasted millions and millions of dollars delaying the obvious and necessary conclusion. But because death row inmates nor illegal immigrants pay taxes, they don't have to care what the cost is to the rest of us.
Spending the money for defense atty's for death row inmates is more legitimate.. at least THEY are American Citizens.
I guess she has no concept of "Adios Cucaracha!".
Agenda!?! Targeted!?! Yeah, for breaking our laws.. and it took 5 years to do it. Appeals upon appeals.. oh where oh where do they get the money for that???
