Peres says Ahmadinejad to end up like Saddam Sat Apr 15, 2006 10:22 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli veteran statesman Shimon Peres, responding to the latest verbal attack on the Jewish state by Iran's president, said on Saturday that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would end up like Iraq's Saddam Hussein.

In a speech to a conference on the Palestinian issue on Friday, Ahmadinejad said: "The Zionist regime is a decaying and crumbling tree that will fall with a storm."

Peres, in a statement quoted by Israel Radio, called Ahmadinejad's comments a direct threat to Israel's existence.

"His statements are reminiscent of those voiced by Saddam Hussein. Ahmadinejad will end up like Saddam Hussein," he said, referring to the Iraqi leader ousted by a U.S. invasion in 2003 and on trial for the killings of 148 Shi'ites two decades ago.

"Ahmadinejad represents Satan, not God," Peres said. "History has denounced the madmen and those who waved the sword."

Peres, a former prime minister, is a senior member of acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's centrist Kadima party. He is expected to hold a top cabinet post in the government Olmert is forming, following Israel's March 28 election.

Last year, Ahmadinejad was quoted by Iran's official IRNA news agency as telling a conference that Israel must be wiped off the map.

Ahmadinejad has repeatedly questioned the veracity of the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were killed by Nazi Germany. In December he described it as a myth.

......I'm surprised Peres isn't calling the Iranian leader "a resonsible partner for peace".

I'm sure Uncle Shimon will be dropping his pants and grabbing his ankles soon.

Israel will have to take them out because after the fall elections the U.S. will be too weak to do anything about it....

Maybe those who face the most threat should be the first to act.

Iran is begging for war with us.

Let Israel do it.

However, After the liberals gain control of the House and the President is being impeached and left with Zero Credibility in the world it will be our time.... A dirty Bomb smuggled through Canada.... No doubt the WALL we build to shore up the Southern Border will keep out them Mexicans but the large border to the North will not hold back the Terrorist threat... anyway .... Dirty Bomb in Manhatten should kill 10x the number on 9/11.... then maybe some suicide subway bombers or tunnel bombers with Sarin or Small Pox.... (Pick Your Poison) The U.S. will not be such a wonderful place for long....

I have a question. Why does a leader of a country intentionally want to create a war? Do the lives of his country's men and women mean nothing to him? A lot of people will die. The US is in Iraq to help them get a leg up in life after a very severe and dangerous dictatorship. We are less needed every day there. There are 4 fully functional air bases on the other side of Iran in Afghan. There are silent subs in the water near them. Things are targeted for destruction.

Does the wacko in Iran think he will win the war he wants to create?

Remember that we are dealing with fanatics here
Those guy's are persuaded that Allah will provide victory regardless of the enemy power
I not dying in a holly war is a guaranteed place in heaven
This is why they are so dangerous there is no way to reason them

What I wonder about is the sane people in Iran who seem to be just whistling past the graveyard. When will THEY wake up and smell the coffee?

Irresponsible, dangerous fanatics must be taken at their word. If you show strength to wild animals, they will go away. Same thing with these people. Just announce that in 24 hours we are going to "build" them a staircase to Heaven. And just watch the people run and drive out of there. Just like anybody else that has 2 brain cells to rub together.

"When will THEY wake up and smell the coffee?"

When they are in refugee centers in Iraq and Afghanistan. The UN will give them coffee and dognuts and rubbers. Maybe a blanket and an umbrella to lay underneath. It gets to 140F around there. I am a white guy that turned into a black guy in the Mohave desert at 120F in one day. My skin was trained around the Coste del Sol over time.

FNC is covering this now on Weekend Live w/Tony Snow, who is a FReeper, BTW. I think we are kidding ourselves by thinking there's going to be a coup in Iran.

I have been pondering this very question.

Presently, I don't think he has the support of the general Iranian populace.

Ahmadinejad thinks America is already, covertly, trying to overthrow his government. (Militarily, we have him surrounded) I think he is trying to publicly provoke the US/Israel into an open military attack of some sort. If that occurs, overnight he will have the overwhelming support of the Iranian people.

In the eyes of the not-so-well-informed Iranian, he would instantly be transformed from radical provocateur to defender of Iran against the evil invaders (sometimes known as the Joooooos).

I think from his perspective, (the weird Arab Strong-Man form of political thinking) that would allow him to pursue any military agenda he desires.

Nothing else makes any sense to me.
