Long as people have their big screen TV's, the stock market keeps going up, and gas doesn't cost 6 bucks a gallon, not much chance...

Voting in the FairTax - it'll fix it every time!!!

Check both the bill (HR25) and the FairTax website.

Good for you!!! Nice to see someone with some common sense.

It gets tieresome listening to all those having vested interests in the Status Quo.

I think most people would rather have control of their own consumption (e.g., their own tax burden) and choose to do it their own way that to have it confiscated as at present.

Do you suppose it's just a coincidence that these polls always show up around the middle of April?

Nonsense!!! You only think that because some moron with a vested interest in the present system has lied to you and you haven't stopped to realize how large the illegal economy is right now ... and it pays basically no taxes.

There are over 21 million illegal aliens in the country (that was over a year ago so there are probably 25 million now) and the "official" government figure is 10 to 12 million. That's prettty close for government work, I suppose, but it doesn't even mention the drug dealers.

Under the FairTax, all in the illegal economy will contribute to the tax revenue each time they buy something at retail ... and illegal aliens aren't eligible for the prebate, either. This helps you and I to bear less of the tax burden that at present when these sorts take but give nothing from a tax standpoint.

No flat tax is what it's cracked up to be as shown in this post.

The poll of 1,005 adults was conducted April 11-13 by Ipsos

.... And the percentage of those 1005 who described themselves as middle class?

Betcha it's somewhere around 58 percent.

Yep !

An incentive-based income tax would be one that included ZERO deductions and had the HIGHEST rate on the first dollar earned. Lower marginal rates as an incentive to earn more.

Say, 20% up to median personal income ($50K), 15% between median and twice median, 10% above twice median.

That would give people an incentive to make a hgigher income, rather than the disincentive we have today. It would also completely replace all revenue from income taxes, payroll taxes, and excise taxes.

Of course, this will never happen in the United (Socialist Republic of American) States. A FairTax without rebate at 19% would have the same affect, since higher-income people would be able to save more and spend less of their income, resulting in a lower average tax rate with higher incomes. That would also provide an incentive to earn higher income.

Do you really believe that fraud would be easier under a simple, transparent tax than under our 60,000 page, convoluted, loopholed tax code?

You do realize that there are at least 12 million people (aka illegals) who are not paying one cent in federal tax right now....haven't even mentioned: drug dealers, bookies, prostitutes, your local handyman who insists on being paid in cash......

Why would a business be willing to risk everything to give you or anyone a break? I just don't see the local furniture salesman risking his business to save you a couple of hundred bucks on a couch. Not worth the risk.
