Oh yeah, all hound. And bassets don't think they are much bigger than a daschund.

We have 2 45 pound dogs, male & female, and a 75 pound male. He is the biggest chicken.

Their personality is hard to beat.

Growing up we had daschunds. The house dog. Man, they had big egos. When they would go outside, they would keep the big dogs in line.

>>>>"Wish I could contact those 30 or 40 prospective Eagle Scouts and would bet you that they are not ribbing him about it. Especially any that have a pet"<<<<

Or if you are passing out Merit Badges, out of that 30 or 40 there has to be at least 1 Eddie Haskel.

Not trying to pick a fight, just saying that an Eagle Scout would probably appreciate a tougher battle or a little more of a challenge. A gift of Merit has little worth if unearned, it's just a gift, John Kerry would appreciate it and brag about it but he has no Character, Scouting was all about Character when I was involved, but maybe things have changed in the last 40 years.

When I did my eagle project, nobody wrote an article about it.

You must not have had a good PR guy. ;)

>>>>"What was your project?"<<<<

I cleaned 2 miles of the Clackamas River bank (both sides) but adults tried to make it what it wasn't, I did it because it was dangerous, exciting and I loved the river. Adults tried to make it Ecology and Mankind is Evil yada yada yada and by the way that was a 4H project, Scouting had even more overbearing adults, which is why I left it.

"Lighten up, Francis" is one of my favorite lines! I've actually used it in very similar situations as the Movie.

Yep! My son is a Weblos and I am his den leader. It is a blast. The magazine is a little different, but they still call Pedro names! My son also reads it cover to cover, just like we did. He is almost as excited about becoming a Boy Scout as I am. We do not get to do many authorized camping trips in cub scouts ( just two a year). My den has great parents and we usually do two more "off the record". Glad to meet another scout!

Just as a side note, I am an Eagle Scout. My project was building a handrail fo the side walk that led up a hill from my Church's parking lot to the building. My advisor was a commercial construction manager with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Citadel. Needless to say my ducks were in a row. Along with any other water fowl in the general vicinity.

Comparing the young man to Eddie Haskel and not having character is a stretch to my way of thinking. Community service is a worthwhile project and in this case he IS earning Merit. It is not a gift.

This young man will make a fine Eagle Scout. John Kerry has never done anything in his life that would even come close.

To me, character is about caring and doing for those who have no voice. We, as pet owners are the voice of the animals who depend on us for their very lives. They give love and loyalty without asking much in return.

This young man is a pet owner who takes his dog to the park. His project is a 'thank you' to those who made the park possible and he is giving back in service for the joy the park has given to his pet.

"Weblos" just reading that brought back memories.

I remember the Hikes and the Campsite Competition.

Enjoy, they grow up way too fast.

Here's what I see:

1) Removing the current dog dishes.
2) Installation of a watering trough.
3) Re-engineering of the existing water supply to supply the new trough.
4) Fill in holes in the ground.
5) Design, make, and install leash holders.
6) Repair a number of concrete tables.
7) Paint them.
8) Run fund-raising events to pay for it.

Sounds like a fine Eagle project to me. I'd approve the concept in a minute.

Understand that the purpose of an Eagle project is not to save Western civilization. The idea of an Eagle project, in order of importance, is to 1) have the Scout demonstrate planning and leadership skills by 2) running a service project that benefits the community.

This Scout is going to have to work out the details of all these things. He's going to have to plan the tasks that need to be done, the materials and tools needed to do them, and the people necessary to do the tasks. He's going to have to schedule the whole thing. He's going to have to write the whole plan up and present it to and get it approved by the local Scout Council and the Park Department. He's going to have to recruit the people he needs, get the materials bought and delivered to the site, direct the work, and get the place cleaned up and any waste and demolished materials disposed of. Doesn't sound so simple now, does it?
