I'm reading Crichton's
Airframe and it has two surprisingly good descriptions of how the media operates. One on the print and one on televised news topic exploitation (i.e. Sixty Minutes tripe).
Stories are prewritten, interviews are 'gotcha' moments and facts are edited to extinction.
