I could never understand stories like this. They're in wildlife/bear territory when out in the woods at campgrounds, and they fault a bear when he's doing what comes natural for him to survive! I just don't get it! Now they're hunting him to kill him. UGH!
Your POV is rediculously out of whack.
Two little children at a campground are attacked by a bear, one of them is killed, the mother must be out of her mind from grief at this moment, and you're sorry for the friggin' bear?????
Except for Polar Bears people are usually not on the menu. Like most omnivorus creatures they will take advantage of easy prey like a child or an injured person. It may be the this bear is old and not able to hunt effeciently. As with some animals like lions perhaps this bear has developed a taste for human flesh. In any case it should be captured or killed. Bears are creatures of habit and they will return to a place where the pickings are good.
Going into the woods without being heavily armed and trained in killing predators.
Not regularly sending the menfolk into the woods with guns and dogs to find track and kill potential predators and a good day's exercise.
I agree with you; a question I have is how are they going to know if the bear they get is the "killer bear" anyway?
Damn straight. Perhaps you think they should let him be so he's free to go maul someone else now that he's tasted human blood?
"I could never understand stories like this"
I get the impression that there is a lot you don't understand.
Killer bears are a problem.
Bears which have lost fear of humans are a problem.
People have a right to go anywhere they want and protect themselves from anything threatening them.
How are the suppose to know what bear did this anyway? Thsi is moronic, and a bunch of morons will surely kill bears that were not even involved. If people want to eliminate all chances of getting attacked by a shark then they shouldn't go in the ocean. The same goes for bears in the woods. I think people have enough space to do what they want, and if you walk around one of the few habitats bears have left then you are responsible for the bsafety of yourself and that of your children. If a bear ever attacks someone in Central Park then they can take it out.
"Now they're hunting him to kill him. UGH!"
What do you suggest, counseling? It's an animal, animals are expendable, humans are not.
What "comes natural for a bear to survive" is to be afraid of humans.
What comes natural for humans to survive is to kill bears that kill humans.
Nature is "red in tooth and claw" but that does not mean that bears get a pass.
Well, try this.
How about killing the bear so it doesn't attack more humans. Once a bear attacks a human it will do it again.
A lot of well meaning but stupid humans (ones that don't believe an animal should ever be killed) actually feed the bears up here in the Smokies, then when the bears get aggressive, they can't understand why.
Most of these aggressive bears end up having to be killed, to keep them from attacking again.
Yes, the Cherokee National Forest (where this happened) is where the bears live. But we don't live in the Garden of Eden like Adam and Eve did, and there are lots of humans in the world too. To allow a bear known to attack humans to just go about its business would be epitomy of stupid.
