Hey rolling stone, you know your stuff!

One other point:

Even if amnesty did not lead to a new wave of illegal immigration, legalizing illegals hurts the employment opportunities of low-skilled workers.

Americans still get somewhat higher wages for unskilled work on average than illegal aliens.

So illegal aliens are "to some extent" glutting the labor pool, but not completely so, because the labor pool of American workers still has some slight edge over the labor pool of illegal aliens.

Give illegals amnesty, and then it is all the same labor pool. That means wages will go toward some weighted average of the existing legal and illegal labor pools, which means that American workers in low-skilled occupations will see declining wages as a DIRECT consequence of the legalization of the illegal workers.

and of course, there will also be the indirect effect of flooding the labor pool with yet a huge new glut of low-skilled workers consisting of the new flood of illegal aliens who will be motivated to enter the country on account of the amnesty.

"And when did the plight of the worker become the primary concern of the Republican Party?"

It hasn't yet. But since the Democratic Party has abandoned the American worker, and I happen to believe in supporting the American worker, I would like to see if we can steer the Republican Party in the direction of standing up for the American worker.

A pipedream you say? I hardly think so. There are a whole lot of House Republicans that are strongly pro-worker.

Once we get some of those petrified relics retired from the Senate, maybe we'll get some in there as well.

Hey rolling stone, you know your stuff!

thanks, I wish my liberal Senator Feinstein had a clue..according to her testimony she was swayed by the Farm Burea saying they couldnt get enough workers so she had an agricultural job posted at 58 welfare offices and no one responded...Liberals-ahhhh- who in their right mind is going to give up or reduce their welfare entitlement to work in the field for next to nothing per hour? ahhhhh no wonder the Senate is messed up. So she proposed and amnesty like the failed 1986 amnesty knowing full well it was rampant with fraud...I cannot believe these people can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time...
