Immigration Madness

There is only one group of people with less credibility on the immigration issue than Washington politicians. It is the illegal immigrants protesting violations of their "rights" while parading the Mexican flag and disrespecting the one symbolizing the great nation from which they're demanding favors.

I'm not talking about all demonstrators in every city in which a march occurred. Some were reportedly peaceful and even patriotic. But the hostility of some protestors did more to galvanize apathetic Americans into demanding action on immigration than all the previous alarm-warnings from politicians and pundits combined.

Nothing awakens the sleeping giant like direct threats to her sovereignty and security. And it was hard not to feel violated by the outrageous spectacle of people making demands on the very system they have circumvented instead of demonstrating some humility, if not contrition.

On the other hand, it's not hard to understand their attitude, given our shameful negligence concerning the integrity of our border and the rule of law. We hardly have clean hands either, considering our enforcement laxity and our Faustian bargain to reap the fruit of the poisonous tree by exploiting the cheap labor illegals provide. We don't even have enough respect for our laws to call violators "illegals," insisting on the euphemism undocumented workers.

"I have no problem with any of that - did you know Teddy wanted "UNLIMITED" legal immigration though?" No he didn't. I have no idea why you haven't been banned yet.

Ooh, fun game! How many American flags can you count in that picture? I see 1, 2, 3, 4! Four American flags!

• By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent.

So my ballpark guess of $5,000 - $15,000 was pretty close for a former carpenter/contractor. It took me about a minute to estimate that from past experience and recent conversations with a contractor about current wages. I wonder how many months of research the analyst did?

I proved it for one. I was incorrect about Texas, but there are towns in Texas in which Spanish is the official language. I wasn't too far off. For my original point, go ahead and read back. I can't do all your research for you.

And I argue that, if all immigration were made legal, that conflation would be justified, and we could fully reap the benefits of immigration. And the NBER funds and is a repository for papers of all stripes: compare
http://www.nber.org/papers/w5015
with
http://www.nber.org/digest/mar06/w11541.html

And did you see that I posted the full paper, in its entirety, as published in a journal? That most definitely does not make it a white paper.

what is it with you people and your slippery slopes?

I just don't want undocumented workers to be felons, I don't want the people that help them to be felons, and I don't want a gigantic waste of money on our border.

wait, I'm sorry, did you just say that there's an inherant difference in the way that latinos and Canadians break the law based on some mother tongue? You do realize that Spanish is the official language of several states and that speaking Spanish is not a "threat to the American way of life." There's no need to fear bilinigual people. I promise they don't bite.

I appreciate that those on the other side of the debate have finally shown their true colors.

Spanish is not THE official language of any state in our Great Nation. For those of you from Mexico or a Central American country, perhaps so.

NOW. Waiting for republicagal to document which states she is referrring to..... (crickets)

And, also, how about some first hand reports of the "marches" you participated in, deanis73 and republicagal?

Hmmmm?

Even illegal immigrants have rights under the U.S. Constitution.

He's right. I remember when I overheard my Grandpa in 1980 saying "Criminals have NO rights at all!". I was too young then to fully comprehend the absurdity of that statement. Now I know. Prisoners have TV, get 3 square meals, visits to the library, health care for life, privacy in their letters and packages (mostly). This country is going the way of Rome.

Only Rome would have nuked Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran just to be sure they got Osama.

And it does support my point, for his argument covers ALL immigration. If it only applied to the legal sort, then it wouldn't, but it refers to all immigration. Furthermore, I'm arguing that if we made them all legal, we could reap many benefits, so of course it supports that point, as well.

However, what it DOES do is improve our businesses' competitiveness with foreign businesses, reduce the cost of living for ALL Americans (while reducing wages for some), ...

Ah, there it is. Did you write that drivel for the CATO Institute? "So what if it drives down wages $1,700 per year? And so what if that same carpenter only gets a $200 dollar increase in purchasing power? Us six figure guys will save thousands$$$$$$!!!!!!"

The argument was for greater efficiency, I'd rather not discuss class warfare, if that's all right with you.

Again, I will not do your research for you. I have posted... numerous times a link. the second link was to a .org site. Spanish is the official language of New Mexico, get over it.

I posted a "first hand" account earlier in the thread. I was there. period. There were few, if any flags from other countries aside from the US. I'm not going to entertain you by leaping through the threads to find it. You have a mouse, an internet connection, and by the grace of God a brain, go find it.

It is not up to me to do the research to validate the statement of a troll, troll!
I posted his/her source so all could see that the poster was MISREPRESENTING it's own source!
AGAIN... even your source does not give support to the statement made by this poster.

Your very own Democrat Party is the one that put the "felony" provision in H.R. 4437. But they didn't teach you that at your school, did they?

You still haven't answered whether you are working for Reconquista. Are you Mechista, or what?
