My,my aren't you the righteous one! No, it's not my "belief in" my " complete and perfect rightness"... it's just that I noticed you signed up today so you could rag on the Republicans in office. Where is your indignation at the Democrats who are reveling in the thought of ushering in this new voter bloc?
Just going per past experience with trolls, that is generally their MO.

wait, I'm sorry, did you just say that there's an inherant difference in the way that latinos and Canadians break the law based on some mother tongue? You do realize that Spanish is the official language of several states and that speaking Spanish is not a "threat to the American way of life." There's no need to fear bilinigual people. I promise they don't bite.

I appreciate that those on the other side of the debate have finally shown their true colors.

"Do the economic disadavantages of having illegal immigrants in this country really outweigh the costs of building a fence that would not prevent them from getting in, just make it "harder" for them to do so? "

The cost to taxpayers of supporting illegal aliens runs in the tens of billions of dollars. Those costs will skyrocket if we did an amnesty, since we will still be supporting the legalized illegals (low-income workers require far more in public services than they pay in taxes), and we will also be supporting the new wave of illegal aliens who we induced to come by the lure of amnesty.

The wall would be a few billion. And that's predominately a one-time cost, while the tens of billions that illegals cost us are on a yearly basis.

We would need far more than a wall, however. We would need robust enforcement of employer sanctions. Initially, that would require many thousands of agents.

Once we got control of illegal immigration, the costs would go way down. The only reason it's so expensive is because it is so out of control. Get it under control and then the cost of maintaining the enforcement system would be rather modest.

The other alternative is open borders. This will also eventually cure illegal immigration. Once the labor force is so glutted that low-skilled workers in the U.S. are paid a dollar an hour, it will no longer be attractive to come to America.

And, we will have done a remarkable thing. While underdeveloped nations like China and India are making progress toward prosperity, we, as the most powerful economy in world history, will driven ourselves into third world poverty.

Excuse me, but I don't believe that "80% of the people want one thing" is a sufficient justification to silence debate on an issue.

Debate it all you want, I'm sure you have a mirror to practice with...you asked some questions here, I replied and you ignored my information. That indicates you don't want to debate, only proffer theories, so do it with yourself. Get some facts to back up your theories or IMO you are just blowing smoke...

.....come over here to escape a health system that makes them wait days for an asthma attack.

Not to carry this on to be awkward but..... The Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan (OHIP) can refer Canadians to the lovely land,of excellent medical care.(not sarcasm). My spouse, a socialist withall, was refered to The Burns Clinic, Petoskey,Michigan as are other Canadians.

All cleared and declared at the border. Thought she was Royalty, the way she was treated there. Returned to Canada of course. Forgive the lecture, but must inform all Americans of the medical cross border stuff.

Nothing to worry about. They're all wearing snow-white T-shirts and carrying American flags now.

... don't tell me you're pulling out the dreaded... race card?

Stick to the substantive debate and quit hiding behind race. It has absolutely nothing to do with it...if it did all of my close friends (and family members) of Mexican decent would be welcoming these law-breakers, guess what? They're not.

I was unaware that democrat-bashing was required in every post, although I believe I've made it clear enough that I believe in the free market and small government more than most in here apparently do.

I started the "canadian debate" as a means to show how fuzzy your whole argument is.

Admit it, the fence has nothing to do with "anti-terrorism and everything to do with zenophobia.

There was an article posted by some think-tank-economic-pointy-head from CATO Institute the other day. He made quite an essay out of the premise that illegal alien labor actually helped America by lowering consumer costs of products and services. (Of course he didn't say one word about the tax burdens like housing assistance, emergency rooms treated like doctors offices, food stamps and so on and so forth) But even discounting the tax burden aspect, as a carpenter/contractor for many years, I wanted to thank him for enlightening me. He showed that, in spite of a $5,000 - $15,000 decrease in earning power, my purchasing power would be at least $100 - $200 more per year.

How do you think India and China are doing it? Certainly not through central planning or through restriction of the labor supply. If we're really intent on saving our primary sector, larger quantities of cheap labor are exactly what we need.

Right, right, you and Ted Kennedy both.

Not that it is required, but you infer the problem as being a Republican one alone. You say you believe in small government, but fail to support the very BASIC responsibility of government which is to protect and secure our borders and our sovereignty... or perhaps you don't believe in either borders or sovereignty.

That's what devolve said the other day! The 'organizers' are providing them with those white shirts and U.S. flags.

In many pictures I've seen, they are holding up a U.S. flag for the cameras but have a Mexican one hanging over their arm.
