When my kids are quiet I know somethings up!

You know what I wish though. I wish that I enjoyed learning things the way I do now when I was young and in college. All I had ever known at that point was school, and more school. I made good grades, but I didn't put the kind of effort into it that I should have. I had my son 9 months after graduation. My husband says he's my little graduation gift. After that I spent the next seven years changing diapers. Once my kids got to a point where I didn't have to watch them every second, I found that I just really craved mental stimulation. Now I can't stop. Homeschooling has been great fun, and educational for me because I want to learn as much as possible about everything I teach them. We've been studying ancient civilizations starting with Egypt and working our way up. We're in medieval Europe now. I get so excited that I'm pouring over the stuff and trying to get my kids as fascinated as I am. Sometimes they are. Sometimes they're like, "enough already! We wanna play!" I just wish I had been more serious, and disciplined when I was younger. I was smart enough, but I was a bit of a goof off. I could have gotten way more out of my education.

First off, congrats on homeschooling your children...I know thats a difficult job, but you seem just the perfect person for it, as you do seem to enjoy learning so much, and I am sure that in spite of the occasional complaints from your children, they do appreciate what you give, and I am sure that your love of learning, has rubbed off on them...

My children went to a combination of both private and public schools, depending on where we lived(due to military moves)....so altho they went outside the home for school, they very well knew, their education did not stop when the left the schoolhouse door, it continued on at home...

And our yearly vacations were always a combo of fun and education...one year, we went up to Virginia, and spent time at Williamsburgh, and went over to Jamestown, and visited many historic sites...and then onto Busch Gardens for fun...in NC, we would go down to Wilmington, visit the historic Moore Creek Natl Monument, visit the blockade runner museum, and visit and USS North Carolina...the boys were expected to enjoy those visits but also to learn what the importance of those places were..after those visits, on to the beach for a few days of swimming and fun in the ocean...we always tried to make education interesting and part of how we interacted with the boys...and then went onto more silly, fun things...

I think that children are naturally curious and anxious to learn new things...they are eager to learn...

I love to learn new things as well...that is why I find this whole evo/creo/ID debate so fascinating...I am learning lots and lots of new things...

You also have a new Freepmail I sent...
