First off, congrats on homeschooling your children...I know thats a difficult job, but you seem just the perfect person for it, as you do seem to enjoy learning so much, and I am sure that in spite of the occasional complaints from your children, they do appreciate what you give, and I am sure that your love of learning, has rubbed off on them...

My children went to a combination of both private and public schools, depending on where we lived(due to military moves)....so altho they went outside the home for school, they very well knew, their education did not stop when the left the schoolhouse door, it continued on at home...

And our yearly vacations were always a combo of fun and education...one year, we went up to Virginia, and spent time at Williamsburgh, and went over to Jamestown, and visited many historic sites...and then onto Busch Gardens for fun...in NC, we would go down to Wilmington, visit the historic Moore Creek Natl Monument, visit the blockade runner museum, and visit and USS North Carolina...the boys were expected to enjoy those visits but also to learn what the importance of those places were..after those visits, on to the beach for a few days of swimming and fun in the ocean...we always tried to make education interesting and part of how we interacted with the boys...and then went onto more silly, fun things...

I think that children are naturally curious and anxious to learn new things...they are eager to learn...

I love to learn new things as well...that is why I find this whole evo/creo/ID debate so fascinating...I am learning lots and lots of new things...

You also have a new Freepmail I sent...

You know, sometimes I almost feel like a dope on these Crevo threads, as I have no graduate or post graduate degrees nor do I have an extremely high IQ...I am just an average person....I said, 'almost'...because tho I may not have degrees or an IQ to be envied, I do, however have the capacity to learn, make decisions about important issues, once I have educated myself on those issues, and like everyone else, I am entitled to my opinion...

Shoot, I don't like to brag, but I'm an ex-enlisted man with a high school diploma.

Well, shoot, my hubby is a retired enlisted man with a high school diploma...

What we cannot figure out, is with neither one of us being extra smart, or being highly educated is how we got so lucky with our younger boy...he has an extremely high IQ, graduated from Cornell with his degree in Applied Physics Engineering...makes tons of money, and make us quite proud(my older boy was actually smarter, but died early, at age 15, from leukemia)...so I cannot brag about myself or my hubby, but am always willing to brag about my son...(I shouldnt do that, but heck, once in a while is ok, I guess)

I ask the question because he proposed that his intelligence and credentials were greater than others. That perked my interest as to why he thinks his qualifications are superior. I would never have ask except that he proposed a superiority. I did not ask any question of his IQ.

Brag about your sons all you want, and your husband, too! :)

It's not the whole story, though. I worked so my wife could get her engineering degree, and now it's my turn. That was the deal. Kind of funny going to college at my age. Some of the kids look at me like the creepy old guy who's going to try to lure them back to my van.

I know why you asked...it is a necessary thing, when someone comes to FR, and makes claims about their education and intelligence...you, of course, asked the questions that needed to be asked...

I know that you did not ask any questions about his IQ...but he did bring it up, so he must think it has a bearing of importance here...

Well, you know, more and more people who are older than the average college student, are going to college...and from what I have heard, the profs really do like having the 'older' students, as they have some life experience, and are usually more serious about their studies...but as you say, it must be an odd feeling, being older than most of the other students...

That was kind of you to let your wife get her engineering degree first...glad that you are now on your turn, getting your education...

I bet you are a far better student because you take it more seriously.

Its not necessary that one state their IQ. If you are skilled in the methods of IQ determination, much can be approximated by their posts which includes the ability to learn and logic. Consertativemom has impressed me lately. She is constantly questioning and searching while maintaining good humor. Much as yourself.

Yeah, there's a lot of folks coming back to school. I see people my age and older all over the place. My pop was always going to commuity college inbetween contracts, or going to night class if his assignment was in town. In many other countries university is considered for the young only. If you don't go or you flunk out then you never get to go back and your social rank is forever limited by your lack of credentials. I'm grateful I have a shot at getting my degree. Class mobility is an important thing, and it's another reason I love my country. Maybe this is getting off the subject a little bit.

Don't feel bad. I dropped out of college almost 30 years ago. I'd love to go back & finish my degree, if only to show my Dad, who finished his degree when he was almost 50, that his smart little girl didn't waste the tuition they paid for after all. :-)

Thank you very much. What did Rush used to say? Young kids with heads full of mush? There's a lot of them. Many of them seem to want to do as little as possible, and have as much as possible handed to them on a platter. There's a lot of good kids, too. Now that I'm taking engineering classes the general maturity level has gone up a lot.

Funny, because it feels like I have less time now. At my job, I could leave work at the office a lot of the time. Now, I come home with my brain pounded flat and I still have to hit the books after making dinner and walking the dog...

As an aside, I like reading your posts. You ask penetrating questions without being hostile or snippy. That's what these threads ought to be about. There are people around here that tend to pooh-pooh academia, but it's not all womyn's studies and junk. Science and engineering all take hard work and dedication to learn. I'm happy to say you're not one of them.

As a computer technician, I worked for ten years in oil and gas exploration, and five years in academic research related to bioengineering and genetic sciences. Along the way I learned some geology and biology from my co-workers. (It's one of the reasons I finally decided to get off my duff and get my degree, being surrounded by all those high foreheads.) A great many of them were people of faith. My last two bosses were highly religious people: an Australian Protestant Christian and an American Conservative Jew. There were some atheists and fence sitters, but so what? There were also Catholics and Hindus, too, all working together on the same puzzle.

It kind of gets my goat when faced with the choice of "you can believe science, or you can believe the Bible." To me, that's a false choice, the fallacy of the excluded middle. The choice is not simply between science and the Bible. There's another choice. The third thing to consider is one's own interpretation of scripture.

What am I supposed to do with that approach in the absence of any evidence to support it?

The same thing you do with evolution... pretend you know it all...

I wonder if the ACLU is going to come busting in here and tell you to take down that cross?

I will drink a little wine and eat a little bread in rememberance of Him.

"What do you mean, "immune to penicillin"?

I mean that it doesn't have any effect on me or my infections anymore.

"But there is growing evidence that you're afraid of filling out the survey in post 68. Why is that?"

Because my system is Macintosh, it's like trying to write on a Acrobat "read only" document. Why is it so important to you?

"Nothing + nothing = nothing. 0+0=0."

Not to evolutionists. To them nothing + nothing = two elements + time....

Read it again:
here are the two premises on which the various THEORIES of evolution are based:
