Frankly, I oppose George Allen strictly on principle.

For starters, I think his philosophical positions regarding the sanctity of human life are intellectually vacuous and extremely damaging to the pro-life movement.

Either it is a scientific fact that human life begins at conception, the moment the unique DNA of the new human person comes into being, or it isn't.

As is almost always the case, that same vacuity on abortion tends to be an indicator of squishiness on a broad range of other issues.

My questions to our fellow poster are designed to point up some of that obvious squishiness in the Senator's record.

Is Senator George Allen the worst politician in Washington, DC these days? Not by a long shot.

But, that doesn't mean he should be anointed the leader of the conservative movement or of the Republican coalition. He doesn't deserve it. He hasn't been a true leader on the pressing issues of our day.

And I believe with all of my heart that the next nominee of the Republican Party should be that kind of leader....someone who has shown the courage of his convictions, who can effectively communicate the truth that traditional conservative principles are the way to freedom and security and prosperity for our nation.

Another Ronald Reagan, if you will.

Senator Sessions hasn't even indicated an interest, but McCain is fond of saying that every senator has presidential aspirations.

My aunt and uncle, longtime residents of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia of over 30 years (both retired Air Force at Langley) can attest to the fact he was the best governor of Virginia!

George Allen had one pro-choice vote in 1992.

His stated position is that abortion should be legal before "viability." That will turn off enough pro-choice voters to cost him the election.
