Republicanprofessor and myself have been talking about the possibility of starting a thread (or something) which could serve as a sort of "Freeper Art Gallery." There are a lot of talented and creative freepers, some of them professional. Perhaps you could be persuaded to exhibit there, if it comes to pass? IIRC, you do illuminations?

"...you do illuminations?"

That, miniature painting, calligraphy (it's funny, my handwriting is atrocious, but I'm quite adept at drawing letters!)...lately I've been playing around with some fabric stuff: when I was in the Army I bought a basic sewing machine because I was too cheap to pay someone else to sew patches, tapes, tabs, etc. I dusted it off about a year ago and been playing with it ever since. Likewise, the visual and fabric stuff kind of merged when I was looking around for some manuscript grade vellums and started doing some leather work, which I've been incorporating into some of the garment working I've been doing.

I'd have no problem exhibiting my stuff....for others to see, and think a FRepper Gallery would be, well....illuminating.

The most valuable stolen treasure the west has now is ME.

Every time I hear an Egyptian whining about the Egyptian antiquities in museums around the world I think about where those antiquities would be if the Brits and others had not removed them. The Egyptians trashed every tomb they could find, it is BECAUSE the Brits removed them and put them in museums that they are valued. Let them whine, don't give anything back.

In Napoleon's time, Egyptians were burning mummies as fuel. The Rosetta stone was almost broken up for a wall of a fort.

Never the less, he is right. And, as any good curator charged with the protection of antiquities, right to do so. If his people really do care about what they want back, they will come around. Otherwise I don't see the British Museum, nor any other that has cataloged, displayed, preserved and protected the worlds history, as giving them up until they are assured of their well being.

I coulda told him that. Who would want to return the Elgin Marbles to Greece, esp. right now?
