NASHVILLE Democratic State Sen. Rosalind Kurita dropped out of the race for U.S. Senate on Wednesday.
Kurita didnt give a specific reason for leaving the race but acknowledged the difficulty of campaign fundraising, where she significantly trailed the Democratic front-runner, U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr.
"You do have to raise an awful lot of money," Kurita said. "My grandmother used to tell me when the Lord closes a door, he opens a window. Now I need to look for that window."
A December campaign finance report showed Kurita had raised just over $500,000 and spent about half of that. Ford had raised about $3 million.
Kurita said she has not decided whether she will endorse Ford, who faces only nominal opposition in the Aug. 3 Democratic primary.
Kurita, a Clarksville nurse, jumped in the Democratic race to seek the seat of retiring Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist last year, about five months before Ford did.
Vying for the Republican nomination are former U.S. Rep. Ed Bryant of Jackson; former Chattanooga Mayor and state finance commissioner Bob Corker and former U.S. Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Van Hilleary.
LOL!
I love it when people start talking defenestration. Remember, it was a defenestration that started one of the most destructive wars in history, the Thirty Years War. When you visit the site in Prague where it took place, you can see people trying not to laugh at the description, but eventually the silliness of it all wears them down and they start to giggle.
And the funny thing is....the three tossed out the window all survived.
Yep -- depending on which version you accept, it was either because angels caught them before they landed, or because they landed in a pile of horse manure. Maybe some combination of both. It's a pretty good fall when you look at it. Of course, plenty of tourists pose sprawled out on the ground below the window. Not that I would ever have lowered myself to such a sophomoric stunt, of course.
But when you talk defenestration, the mind immediately wanders to Prague.
