Exclusive: Jill Carroll Middle Man Says Kidnappers Demanded $8 Million (but ended up with less)

Leader of the Iraqi Insurgency Negotiated Journalist's Release and Says Hussein Should Be President Again

April 12, 2006 — - The man behind Jill Carroll's release tells ABC News in an exclusive interview that kidnapping the American journalist was a mistake. Sheikh Sattam al-Gaood reveals what it took to free her -- and why he supports the insurgency.

Al-Gaood was one of three people specifically thanked by Carroll's family after her release. He was once one of Saddam Hussein's closest business associates, and now says he is a proud leader of the Iraqi insurgency.

"They are defending their country," he said in an interview at his summer house outside Amman, Jordan. "They are an honest resistance. And sometimes they do mistakes."

One mistake, he said, was kidnapping Carroll. Al-Gaood said he used his influence to help free her, even refusing kidnappers' demands for a huge ransom.

"There was a demand for $8 million," al-Gaood said.

Instead, at the kidnappers' request, he said he agreed to arrange payment to widows and orphans tied to the resistance.

"We did good donations," he said. "I don't want it to go into the wrong hands, the money."

I HATE this. Don't these people know that this money will be used to kill MORE people? Unbelievably selfish, imo.

Right... to help 'support' poor mothers after they send their sons to blow themsevles up and kill countless innocents... all because "God is Great!"

Ransom = Terrorist Fundrasing.... Hurrah for moronic peacenik good for nothing FOOLS that only put more and more people in danger with their childish and irresponsible actions.

Their psycological disfunction should NOT an excuse TO FUND TERRORISTS.

(P.S. Last year I read a mil-blog that AQ was 'hiring' common criminals for some of the lesser intimedation tactics... could be bought for as little as $200 per persobn per operation)

The CIA was too busy conducting subversive operations against their own government.

ABC can fly someone over to Jordan for a good 30 minute interview so how hard is it for our CIA to fly an agent over there to get their hit piece? They can take a half day off from their anti-US activities.

I have been hanging out on the FReepathon threads.
Much more fun. Needed a break from the radio active threads.

Ever notice that Islamofascist leaders are far removed from any dangerous conflict? Funny how they always manage to find ignorant dupes to carry out the dirty work while they're issuing the orders from afar.

What a racket!
