Iraqi forces find Iranian arms cache
UPI ^ | April 12, 2006

Allegations by the Bush administration that Iran is covertly assisting Iraqi Shiite militants has been given additional ammunition.

Iran Focus, which is connected Iranian dissidents, reported on April 11 that Iraqi military forces recently discovered an Iranian-made weapons cache hidden in Tikrit, northwest of the capital Baghdad. Tikrit is the hometown of deposed former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The new Iranian-made weaponry was found hidden in a large well in the west of Tikrit, according to an Iraqi army officer speaking on condition of anonymity.

The discovery appears to confirm repeated U.S. and Iraqi assertions that Iran was sending covert agents and weapons into Iraq to assist militias.

In August 2005 U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld castigated the Iranian government after U.S. forces stopped a truck filled with high-tech explosives entering Iraq from Iran.

U.S. intelligence officials also contend that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is developing a relationship with al-Qaida in order to expand Iran's influence in the region.

Decorum and a desire to avoid the Zot prevent me from attaching a picture of what that relationship must look like.

It's not pretty, though.

I don't know why our government doesn't expose more of this type of activity. Maybe they're protecting sources, but by only making allegations those who have an open mind don't get to see the evidence. As for the Liberals, nothing will convince them that Iran is a problem even if it gets a nuke and uses it.

Local Sunnis in western Iraq have been reporting more and more Iranian agents helping death squads conduct mass murder of Sunni civilians. Iran is trying to do the same thing as Zarqawi. Cause a civil war by getting Sunnis to take arms against Shia and Shia to take arms against Sunnis.

I can see the headline now: "Iran detonates nuke in Tel Aviv, proclaims itself victim of Israeli aggression."

Well, if Rumsfeld castrated them then it can't get TOO ugly, can it?

What's that? Oh, never mind...

"Iran is developing a relationship with Al Qaeda"???

Iran has Osamma's son and other close relatives in Iran, plus about 400 senior members and operatives who have been there for years and years.

I would venture that other Al Qaeda foot soldiers are enrolled in the "enforcer" group called the Basiji, an almost totally Arab and Afghan-Taliban para-military "security force" who are tasked with suppressing antimullah demonstrations in the streets, universities and anywhere else a group might gather. And to do this with the utmost violence - killing, maiming with tire irons, stabbing and ruthlessly beating even women and children in the streets - with no fear of prosecution or any restraint.

Sound a bit Talibanish and Al Qaedaish to you?
