There is, however, another point of view: Some of us feel that the current national anthem is not worth saving....

And Big Media wonders where the pubic gets this liberal bias stuff?

God Bless America is nice and all, but it was written for a WWI USO show.

I prefer the Star Spangled Banner, written on the spot by a patriotic, passionate man the morning after victory in a great battle of the War of 1812.

Who are we fooling? Let's just change it to The Mexican National Anthem, "La Cucaracha".

The America hating leftists sole problem withTSSB is that it is excessively patriotic. They would not complain about the tune if the lyrics paid homage to leftist screeds.

We had to memorize the whole song (all verses) at the Academy. I think people would have a greater appreciation if they even knew there were more verses, let alone actually read them. My favorite is the fourth verse...

The Star Spangled Banner
By Francis Scott Key, 1814

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Ahh, I dunno...I know there are other patroitic songs out there, but I really do love the Star Spangled Banner.

I have a question though...I have been searching for a long time for a version where all four verses are sung. Does anyone know where I might find such a version? Thanks very much!

I like the "Star Spangled Banner," and don't have much trouble singing it. I confess that I no longer remember the verses beyond the first.

Although I love "America the Beautiful," I'd prefer to keep our current national anthem. It is a reminder that freedom is won in blood.

I think the Star Spangled Banner communicates the right town. It would be a travesty if we chose a feely-touchy song to be our national anthem (this includes God Bless America, a great song, but not a national anthem).

I like the one we have. But if you wanted to replace it, the first one that comes to mind is The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

My personal choice would be God Bless the USA, by Lee Greenwood. Love that song.
If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

Not to worry, as soon as illegals all get the vote, they'll change the national anthem to whatever Mexico has.

America the Beautiful is a great song, but frankly, it's not majestic enough for a national anthem.

Yeah. When was the last time they were heard clearly without 'styling' that can't be understood.

It's unsingable.

Wrong. It's unsingable by a not-so-good singer. Sarah Brightman has no problem singing the song.
