I doubt many would be fooled by this, but it is interesting that criminals would risk the wrath of the FBI so brazenly.

Looks like it's originating in Northern VA.

This is not related but I had a call last night from Wells Fargo credit card fraud telling me someone was using our card. Wells canceled the card and reversed the charges.

I wonder where else we have been comprised...

With so much info online, it is becoming difficult to protect your identity.

Last year my credit card bill came including a nice trip someone took from Europe to Ireland and back c/o my credit card. I had the charges removed and the card reissued with a new number but you never know what's going on out there. I have removed my SSN from ALL documents (except military papers -- can't do that) and get a free credit service report every year. But I still get notices every several months from some creditor letting me know of the latest scam/alert.

The grammatical errors should give it away but I suppose this letter would not be read by native English speakers. The spelling of “programme” leaps right out.

The spelling of "programme" is what tipped me off. That is a spelling associated with a non-native English speaker who learned British English spellings and not the American ones. I've seen similar differences confuse the heck out of other, English as a second language, speakers.

The US is now using Thai cell Phones and Gmail among other inconsistancies? Not many will be caught in this scam.

That spelling is still pretty commonly used in the UK.

I still spell 'programme' that way. Address is also spelled incorrectly (twice).

Yes, and address is spelled "adress."
