There is a Lincoln-Mexican connection. It was while we were involved in the so-called Civil War (actually it was the war of the barbaric Yankee invasion) that Maximilian declared himself emperor of Mexico. Had we not been otherwise engaged, that probably wouldn't have happened. So we can blame the tyrant, Lincoln, for much of Mexico's woes.
