25 years ago Oprah was a frumpy nobody hacking it at some low-level Chicago TV station. She seized the bull by its horns and became a sensation. I hate her politics but she's got ambition and brains, plus she's vastly underrated as an actress. Should've gotten the Academy for The Color Purple.

Well I think she does both and is proud of the later. One of her projects in Africa is building schools to educate poor girls.

Well that's good. You know, with super rich people, there's always the chance that they are doing an immense number of things that no one knows about. But anyway, the choice is hers and I hope she will be more satisfied with her social projects than her expensive objects, all of which will remain here after she kicks the bucket.

Just recently I was reminded of Mr. Clark, the famous reforming NYC principal who Lou Gosset Jr. portrayed in the Movie "Stand By Me". I saw the real Mr. Clark speak at my University about 10 years ago, excellent speaker. During his speech he said:

"What we do for ourselves goes to the grave with us, what we do for others lives on in perpetuity. It is better to give than to receive."

I think we'd all do well to keep that point in mind as we chase after the things we want (or think we want) in life.

Hillary, with her "rich getting richer" won't play well with Oprah.

The hell it won't. When you get to be that rich, YOUR money isn't at risk. You pay millions of dollars a year to have an army of accountants make sure YOUR MONEY is NOT going to the poor or destitude (except when it is tax deductible and double dipped to be sure).

The beauty of being a limo liberal is you get to have a "good feeling" and sleep well since you have given a tenth of a penny on a dollar while advocating the poor 20-40K shmucks subsidize to the tune of 15 to 23 cents on a dollar for your "sleep of the just."

When you hear that a billion dollars has gone to ensure people stay on the government teat, you get a happy feeling that you "made" that happen.

And her fans.

Dumber than dirt.

David Duke is a hard working man, so let's quit citing the press releases and the legends concocted by Madison Aveni=ue publicists! If we can independently analyze the sources of some public personality's success, that's fine, but conventional wisdom is just boring, embarrassing or worse.

AA and white guilt over slavery, discrimination and some imagined past injustices, are sure roads to success, for the otherwise marginally talented!

Too bad there wasn't a story about Puff Daddy or P Diddy or whatever his name is these days -- the guy is worth what? A couple hundred million? That would really set him off...

I'm actually extremely jealous of Oprah.. I'll admit it. But I do love her shows lately. They've been very good.

Why did you take that racially? Race has nothing to do with it. It was wealth they were speaking about, not race.

I've heard it from liberals before, actually recently. As recently as last week said to my face. Why would one rich person ask Oprah if SHE feels guilty? Does that person feel guilty also?

No hard feelings, but the AA made us all suspicious of success when the source of it isn't obvious and apparent, didn't it? (And I'm talking of institutional success.) Sam Cooke, Bill Cosby didn't have to rely on crutches, but many others, who knows, and we each have our opinions.

"Wealth is a good thing"?

Deep, Opie.

Wish I had that kind of reasoning power.

Too bad that none of it was from HER generosity...
"nice" that she got all of the credit for it, though.

She is the typical limousine liberal. It’s good/okay for me, but bad/evil for you if you're republican/conservative. She is just a typical liberal hypocrite.
