IDF to continue shelling despite civilian deaths
Haaretz ^ | 4/11/6 | Amos Harel

Posted on 04/11/2006 6:33:19 PM PDT by SmithL

A 12-year-old Palestinian girl was killed yesterday by Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip. Thirteen other members of her family, including toddlers, children and teenagers were injured. Nonetheless, a senior Israel Defense Forces officer last night told Haaretz that the widespread shelling of Gaza would continue. Launches of Qassam rockets from the Strip continued yesterday. The Israeli hit on civilians reduces the chances of calming the situation in the region quickly.

The shell hit the family's home on the northern outskirts of Beit Lahia at about 5 P.M. As a result, a fire broke out, and almost everyone in the house was injured. The IDF officer expressed regret at the death of innocents, but claimed the area in which the house is located had served a Qassam launching cell. Advertisement

A few days ago, the IDF increased combative activity in the Gaza Strip, in light of the continued rocket launches from there. Hundreds of artillery shells are being fired daily, along with air strikes, missiles and cannons from naval vessels offshore. The shells are fired immediately as rocket-launch locations are identified; however, additional shelling is directed at other targets, based on analysis of past events and identification of launch sites from previous days.

Recently, the IDF also reduced the "safety zone" artillery batteries must maintain around Palestinian communties. The military was aware the decision could result in civilian casualties, as occurred yesterday. The safety zone was reduced from 300 meters to 100 meters. The shell fragmentation range is 100 meters, so the decision clearly endangers civilian lives.

Since Friday, 17 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli shelling. The dead include two children. Most of the rest were operatives in terror organizations injured in Israel Air Force strikes on training camps operating in the ruins of Gush Katif settlements.

The so-called palestinians have made their choice, and they can live, or die, with that choice.

thats what I like about israel, they fight war how it is supposed to be fought, and on their terms. They aren't PC generals and soldiers. They do what has to be done to win. Until we learn that lesson Iraq will never be a victory.

{Insert war of your choice} to continue, despite inevitable civilian deaths.

Recently, the IDF... decision clearly endangers civilian lives.

But, according to the Leftist press, the decision of Palestinians to launch rockets pose no absolutely danger to Israeli citizens?

I don't get it...

Did the Palestinians stop bombing pizza parlors when civilians were injured or killed?

Hamas to continue shelling despite lack of civilian deaths

Gaza Palestinian leaders expressed dismay at the ineffective killing ratios they are getting with their latest generation missile, the Al Qilla-U Al 3. "We were hoping to bring the kills-per-euro-spent down into the 20's. We were getting 25's with the old Qassams."

"IDF to continue shelling despite civilian deaths"

Good. I catch flak on many threads because I support killing "enemy civilians" - an oxymoron if ever I've heard one.

War should be brutal, ugly and horrible. 5000 years of recorded history proves conclusively that "Peace" can never be "negotiated". The losers must beg for it.

Not widespread enough. At least not to get the Arabs to stop firing rockets.
