GOP Chiefs Don't Want Immigrants Charged

By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent 29 minutes ago

The two top Republicans in Congress, confronted with internal party divisions as well as large public demonstrations, said Tuesday they intend to pass immigration legislation that does not subject illegal aliens to prosecution as felons.

A written statement by Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, did not say whether they would seek legislation subjecting illegal immigrants to misdemeanor prosecution or possibly a civil penalty such as a fine.

"It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony," the two men said. An estimated 11 million men, women and children are in the United States illegally.

The Republican-controlled House passed legislation late last year that is generally limited to border security measures. It makes illegal immigrants subject to felony prosecution.

Senate efforts to write a broader bill — covering border security, a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million in the country illegally — are gridlocked with lawmakers on a two-week vacation.

Frist has said he intends to bring the issue back to the Senate floor, although he stopped short of a flat commitment and the prospects for passage of an election-year immigration bill are uncertain.

The late-afternoon statement by the top GOP leaders in both houses came after days of large street demonstrations by protestors opposed to criminal penalties for illegal immigrants.

Additionally, in a Washington Post-ABC News poll published during the day, only 20 percent of those questioned said they favored declaring illegal immigrants to be felons

My FReeper son was a Police Officer in the South Central Valley in Caifornia and they would round-up and arrest illegals, turn them over to the INS and before the week was out the same illegals were right back in the very same area!!

We very definately need a Border Fence, but it will be costly to build, so.......

What I think the US needs to do, is to arrest the illegals and put them on the rock pile and let them build the fences(guarded of course), let them earn their keep and then leave them on the South side of the fence. That to me would be a good cost worthy way of getting the Border fence built!!

I vote we start with 39,000.

If we can send 39,000 back to China, I think we can deport at LEAST that many Mexicans.

I am not advocating violence

That's exactly how your words will be interpreted by the gov't, though. And, frankly, by any hotheads who are reading this thread.

, Just a show of force like the parking of aircraft carriers off the coast of another country. You are at an age to understand what I am talking about when I refer to the wussification of Americans.

That kind of "show of force" will get you immediately classified as a "dangerous crank", exactly like that kook who jumped the WH fence the other day. Seriously.

This is Reality, 2006.

If you even try to "mobilize" people to make an "armed march on DC", you and they will get slammed down so hard, so fast, that you won't know what hit you. They are simply NOT going to allow it, period.

Forty years ago, if we saw a man downtown, (at least here in the south), walk down the street with a rifle, you'd likely say, wow, nice rifle. Now, you appear in public with a copy of guns & ammo and you are looked at wide eyed and questioned, possibly frisked, by the authorities. Second amendment indeed. What a truly wasted, useless right, (in todays time.)

Well, I guess I'm lucky that I live in an area in which when I am unlucky enough to have to call the police to report crimes committed by criminal aliens, I don't even get a glance or comment from the officer regarding the .45 auto on my belt.

The top three elected Republicans don't want to say they are criminals ("migrant guest workers" in the carebear United States of 2006). That sums up the party right there.

I have had it up to here with talk about "law-abiding illegal aliens". I don't know how many times I've heard that revolting oxymoron (although I do know that the most recent time I heard it was today -- said with a straight face by an allegedly "conservative" freeper, no less!)

So, I decided to "depropagandize" the term.

I shall, instead of using the term "illegal aliens", use the grammatically identical term "criminal aliens" -- and, encourage any and all to join me. (If we will use a meaningless jawbreaker like "homicide bombers" for effect, then we should certainly be calling these criminals criminals, no?)

Can you imagine some toady trying to get away with scolding Americans about their bad attitude toward "law-abiding criminal aliens"? Nope, nor can I! :)

This is where all those of European extraction (whites)are eliminated from the secessionist states so that the states can be assimilated into Mexico to become Aztlan. This is to be accomplished using any means available including massive genocide.

Congratulations! It's been a difficult decision, but the judges have designated yours "The Dumbest Post of the Day."

A list of the fabulous prizes you've won is forthcoming.

Illegals should not necessarily be felons. Felonies are for people who kill and rape. If they kill or rape, then so be it.

Really? Homicide and rape, and that's IT?

Nothing about grand larceny, for instance?

Someone can suck down fifty grand, and it's OK with you for it to remain a misdemeanor?

I don't think that's gonna fly with Joe Sixpack. Or Don Joepack, for that matter. :)

And say, isn't that the amount that I've heard reported as being the avg. cost that each criminal alien sucks out of the economy?

What is Washington going to do? Arrest Americans for threatening to invade Mexico and regain control of our own border?

The ones that don't go down in a hail of bullets, yes.

I read your whole post. And my conclusion is that it's possibly sufficiently "radical" as to result in a visit by a few (or more than a few) people with a GS payscale.

Don't go tilting at windmills, for your own sake.

Then, rather than identify the illegals, we could cull them out by default---by identifying the legals. Yes, I'm talking about a national biometric I.D card. I know, I know. We conservatives hate that. But I'm starting to warm to the idea based on two great concerns: illegal immigration and vote fraud. If WE self-identify---as opposed to waiting for them to do it---we can take back control of our own destiny. Only citizens and legal aliens would get the cards. Again, by default, the illegals would be left card-less.

Any card can be counterfeited -- even one with biometrics.

How about a physical implant, or an IR/UV tattoo? That way, no one would be able to engage in any commerce at all, unless they're "in the system", so to speak.

We have given up the high moral ground, in exchange for cheep lay-bor.

You get what you pay for. The work these illegals do is generally not skilled or craftsman-like. It is merely day labor. One of the reasons they "...work so hard..." is because their work is so poor they have to do it over 2 or 3 times.

I know a drywall contractor that had to pay his anglo workers to re-do the work done by his latino workers, because their work was crap. He eventually went out of business because he couldn't compete with the cheap labor and do good work.

A bunch of them (day laborers) did the drywall in our new house 3 years ago, and if I hadn't had my brother-in-law who is a drywaller come through and yell at them in spanish to quit using nails and use more screws, we'd be having the same "popout" nail problems all our neighbors are having.

And don't get me started about the lousy job they did on putting the rolled river rock on our house. "Put the rocks closer together", I said. "Oh no senor, de boss say make them dees far apart" he replied. We came by in the night and ripped them off the house, and they had to re-do them 3 times--and it's still not right. Cheap Ba$tard contractor....

You get what you pay for.

If not less! :)

In my case, I paid nothing -- and got less than nothing.

I hired NOBODY. No legal aliens, no criminal aliens, no Americans, no one at all!

Yet, the criminal aliens stripped my blueberry bushes clean several years in a row! I gotta hand it to 'em, "nice work", so to speak. It would have taken me DAYS to do what they apparently accomplished in one night. Two rows of bushes, 100 feet long, 6 to 8 feet tall. Yeah, they work hard. Efficient. Grrr....

Then there was my rowboat. I guess they "stole the rowboat that Americans wouldn't steal."

Where I live -- FAR from the Mexican border -- the local newspaper's "crime" section reads like a Mexican phonebook.

The feds DID bust a local operation a few months ago, though. About 40 or 50 workers living in one house, working for a restaurant. The owner brought 'em into the country. They got deported, he got prosecuted, restaurant got closed.

Funny thing, though -- even with ALL of the KNOWN "illegal activity" in the area, the ONLY outfit they busted was run by Chinese!

Go figure.

(You don't think that the fact that the local big "agribusiness" corps depend on "their" Mexicans has anything to do with the rampant NON-enforcement, do you? I mean, just because someone is an influential "heavy", with lots of political conncetions... that doesn't mean that he'd be above the law, while the Chinese guy gets the "full treatment", do ya? Naw, couldn't be. We've got the Rule of Law in THIS country!)

PS: I finally won my battle against the "blueberry Mexicans"! Yeah, I showed them, alright. They have not gotten a crop out of me for several years now. My secret? I let the patch go to hell. It's now completely overgrown with Sumac trees. No more blueberries to steal! Blueberry bushes are very "competition"-susceptible. Yeah, I showed them, alright, those bastards.

Grrr....

PPS: Y'know, I gotta wonder. Ya think that Chinese guy took one look around him, at the massive number of Mexican criminal aliens, operating with impunity, right out in the open, and figured, "Hey, great deal! I can bring in bunch people, do good money! No hassle, good location!" I wonder if HE wondered what the hell hit him when they marched in and took him down? "Hey, what the deal? You no enforcement HERE, look around, all Mexican this town, no hassle! Why bother ME? What? What? OW!"

No, that term can be reserved for our government. Kind of an oxymoron, isn't it? Just like a country with no borders is an oxymoron, and a joke.

PPPS:

Two or three years ago a couple of 'em jumped a farmer maybe a mile and a half from here. He was walking from his house to his barn one fine morning, and I guess he looked like easy pickin's.

Lately, though, they seem to have taken to killing each other off. Every couple of months there's a dead Mexican found by the side of the road, and then a week or two later, they arrest one or more of his "friends" for it.

One cop told me about a local dope ring, with ties running all the way to Mexico. A deal had gone sour, and the Mexican Mexicans sent up a Chicago Mexican to do a hit on the Local Mexicans. The cops happened in on it as it was all about to go down. Charming, isn't it.

Life in Rural America, Circa 21st Century. Quite a legacy we've given ourselves, eh?

First Question that comes to mind is - Where are we going to put these people....aren't our jails and prisons overflowing at it is?

Other than that, if there are indeed 11 million illegals in this country...how does the INS deal with that number?

Yes I want border security and yes deport all the illegals and make the employers pay via either jail time or large fines.

But still the tactical issues here are huge!!!

Its a joke, right? If we're not going to jail or deport illegals, we might as well amnesty them all. The GOP has no intention of taking a stand on principle.

But you know, with ALL the pro-illegal alien marches in the streets all across the nation and the near total lack of counter demonstrations of ANY SIZE or consequence anytime to the contrary the congressional cowards are probably thinking that they are applying the "grease" to the noisiest creaky wheel going, the OBL. Too often I'm hearing from some on (supposedly) our side that if we don't turn out numbers equal to or near equal to the illegals then we end up hurting ourselves.

Horse crap I say. Look at what is happening BECAUSE we aren't doing ANYTHING and it is only going to get worse here on out if Americans don't grow a spine and quit (whining as well as) acting like their Republican spineless congress critters in Washington and start taking to the streets. If we do the numbers will take care of themselves. Many people are only waiting for SOMEONE, anyone to start the ball a rolling before they themselves get involved.

How's that old saying go, something along the lines of "Americans deserve the kind of government they elect!

"It isn't just crossing into and being in the country. It's violating labor laws, tax laws, document fraud, welfare fraud, driving laws (you drove a car without a license and insurance for 5 years?), a whole laundry list of felonies that already exist on the books.

Do the Spineless Ones propose to issue a blanket amnesty for all the rest of us who may have fractured a few of these laws, or are we held to a different standard than the average criminal alien?"

Needs frequent viewing.
