I met Stan Lee at DragonCon one year. Really nice guy!
We went to a Dennis Miller Show taping where Stan Lee was a guest. He explained how he had been $crewed by the entertainment industry and receives basically no money at all from Spiderman or any of the other super hero characters he invented. He really doesn't have money to donate to any campaign. Now he's being $crewed by the Clintons. Such a nice person, too.
I'll never forget when I met him.
I was in charge of hiring speakers for the Student Union at West Georgia College (yes...Newt was teaching there then) and I contracted with Stan to speak. I was a Marvel Comic Book fan and our fraternity had life-size murals of Marvel characters painted on the upstairs walls.
Anyway, we borrowed the Geology Dept. Econoline Van and drove it the 60 miles to Atlanta Airport to pick him up. He took it and the long drive on mostly country roads back to Carrollton with a smile.
He gave a fun speech and agreed to stop by my Frat House on the way back to sign some comics and our wall.
"Excelsior !!! Stan Lee"
The reason I will never forget when that was, was because it was the Monday before the 1972 election between Nixon and McGovern.
Being a mind-numbed hippie liberal at the time, I expected him to be supporting Commie George, but he said he was voting for Nixon.
Excelsior!!!
