Good post.
The CP War on Terror plank renders it unfit for command.
Pending a change on their WoT plank, I'll keep voting Republican and push for change within the Party.
Ditto
Then you'll love their 2000 Senate Candidate in Delaware.
How so? The CP wants to fight the war constitutionally and there is dispute over what constituttes a proper declaration of war. It would undoubtedly not get out any faster than the Bush Administration would. We're there; bugging out quickly would be disastrous. We need to finish what we started. (That was the position of the CP's candidate (actually, its state affiliate) in California's special election, also.) Nation-buliding is one thing; however, removing tyrants who are threatening the United States is something else again. Now it is important to restore stability.
Even the most fervent supporters of the policy in Iraq want us to be out of there as soon as it's practicable to do so. It's a matter of when that is.
As for fighting the war while observing constitutional liberties, obviously some national security measures are necessary. But if we lose the Constitution, we lose America. We must protect the country's security in the way that does the job effectively while maximizing individual freedom, which the Constitution protects.
Amen. The #1 reason why I decided to no longer affiliate with the Libertarian Party after 9/11.
Why? We SHOULD have declared war in Congress for all this. If we declared war, not only would it be constitutional, it would also bring into play those nice things like sedition laws and make other necessities kosher as well.
