Airport Planned for Megiddo 16:25 Apr 10, '06 / 12 Nisan 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Civil Aviation Authority officials on Monday announced a domestic airport will be constructed in Megiddo in cooperation with a number of authorities, including the Jezreel Valley Regional Council.

The new airport is planned on a 400-duman (100-acre) area at a cost of $35 million. Officials report the airport will undoubtedly increase tourism to the Jezreel Valley and surrounding areas.

"Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to Armageddon. Please keep your seat belts securely fastened until the Captain has come to a complete stop at the gate. Thank you for choosing to fly "Revelations Airlines", and we hope you enjoy your stay in Armageddon. Buh Byee!"

I just visited Armageddon last month. No funny t-shirts anywhere -- maybe there was a fear factor. Anyway, it's quite an amazing archaelogical site -- something like 21 layers going back 8,000 years. Even by Israel standards, that's an oldie.

It boogles the mind how they just keep rebuilding over the same sites over and over again. You think it would be easier just to pick a new spot.

Well it is too inconvenient for everyone fighting the last battle to have to walk.

Armageddon
Armageddon (AR-ma·GED·don), the mount of Megiddo, according to the New Testament book of Revelation, is once again to host one of the world's major armies in a immense conflict between East and West (Revelation 16:16). The idea of Megiddo being the venue of humanity's apocalyptic finale, the "final" battle in this war called the "Battle of Armageddon", is a misnomer. The actual battle is to occur at Jerusalem and called "the war of the great day of God, the Almighty" (Revelation 16:14 NASB) or the "Battle of That Great Day of God Almighty" (KJV).

SCRIPTURE SUMMARY
Joshua killed the king of Megiddo during the Conquest (Joshua 12:7, 12:21).
The city of Megiddo was allotted to the tribe of Manasseh (Joshua 17:11; I Chronicles 7:29).
Deborah and Barak led the Israelites to victory over the Canaanite armies of Sisera by "the waters of Megiddo" (Judges 5:19-20).
Solomon made Megiddo one of his district capitals as well as one of his three main fortress cities (I Kings 4:12; 9:15).
King Josiah of Judah died in battle near Megiddo when he tried to thwart pharaoh Necho's attempt to succor the Assyrians at the Battle of Carchemish (II Kings 23:29-30; II Chronicles 35:20-24).
Western military forces gather in the Valley of Megiddo, at Armageddon, and proceed to Jerusalem to engage eastern forces advancing in that direction, and at the height of battle encounter the unforeseen intervention of the Messiah (Revelation 16:16).
At the end of the age, in biblical prophecy, the valley of Megiddo, now known as the valley of Jezreel, will serve as the gathering place for an immense army which will engage the returning messiah, Jesus Christ, and his supernatural army in the Day of the Lord (Revelation 1:10; 16:12-16; 19:19; I Thessalonians 5:2; Joel 1:15; 2:11, 2:31).

AR -- My wife and I were there in late February. We stopped on our way from Tiberias to Acre. Our first trip ever to Israel, it was wonderful! Hope you enjoyed your time too.

And an Iraqi SCUD fired during DESERT STORM landed very close to Megiddo. Fortunately Iraq did not arm its SCUDs with chemical or bio warheads. And the Israelis, who were forced through diplomacy to sit on their hands and NOT employ their doctrine of retaliation during the Iraqi SCUD onslaught.... have erased all traces of where the SCUDs hit, so as not to re-visit this "shameful" episode in ther national history where they absorbed attack and did nothing.

Joe, I think with Armageddon, timing is everything. But I guess eventually, we all either come to Armageddon or Armageddon comes to us.

The site is near a water source. During siege times, they had an underground tunnel to it, which you can tour today. James Michener wrote a book based on this site called "The Source". It's pretty educational and interesting. The premise for the book is about archaeologists finding little objects of one kind or another on each level of the dig. Michener then writes a story about how each object came to be deposited at that layer.

The Megiddo water tunnels to the spring outside the fortifications were built under the direction of Joshua. Very impressive to walk around such ancient ruins.
