DETROIT -- Fifteen immigrant women who missed work to attend an immigrant rights rally last month have been fired.
The general manager of a Detroit meat packing company said the women were warned they would lose their jobs if they skipped work on March 27.
The workers said they received no such warning.
All of the women are natives of Mexico. Many had worked at Wolverine Packing for several years, and some are undocumented immigrants
An activist trying to get the women's jobs back said they were fired "for standing up for their rights."
Nope they were fired for not showing up for work.
Most businesses can stand a couple of people taking the day off, but when 15 people dont show up that throws sand in the gears. Personally I feel if some of them are undocumented that business needs closing up anyway.
I bet the EEOC will side with them and demand their jobs back.
I don't know about the rest of you, but this PMO to no end to hear ILLEGALS protest for their rights? Either enter this country legally, or get out!
Let the backlash begin!
In the U.S. we have freedom of speech and the right to assemble ON OUR OWN TIME, not on our employers time. Being forced to show up for work and not get to go to a protest has never violated any personal rights. People can speak and protest all they want, just not on the boss' time.
Seriously, this, and the demonstrations themselves, make you wonder if there's yet another reason employers are pushing for amnesty: they're losing control over their slave laborers, thanks to the immigration lawyers.
There is no law on the books that protects one from political discrimination. It has been tested in the courts. If you disagree with an employee on a political issue, you may fire him, as the Republican employee of an ice cream shop in MA found out when his Democrat employer fired him before the 2000 election because the employee was vocal in his support for Bush.
Hire AMERICANS!!
We had better wake up. They want to take over the SW USA.

With all these people marching in the streets, one had to wonder who was minding the shop. These people have no right to be here, no rihgt to protest and no right to expect their employment to be safe.
Nary a hint of a counter protest anywhere.
This statement goes to the heart of American anger: that criminals are allowed to define their own "rights", while Americans see theirs whittled away constantly to accomodate and support the endless stream of criminals.
I don't care if there are "too many" of them. Off they go whether it takes 1 year or 20 to deport them all.
When Quebec started talking separation, businesses started moving headquarters to Toronto. Will business start taking this issue into account when doing long-term planning?
Well, it is an understood in in the U.S. of A.
I suppose they believe that since they are illegal and no one does anything to them that they can not report for work and get away with it. There will probably be a lawsuit and awarded money.
Now, on the opposite side of the fence take the elderly American lady who was ticketed for walking too slowly across the street in the crosswalk at a signal who has to report to court and pay a $114.00 ticket.
I don't recall, in my many years in the workforce, ever having a job where I was allowed to take time off to protest.
As ILLEGAL ALIENS, they HAVE NO RIGHTS.
Or am I wrong about this?
