"I bet that he and 50% of the other liberal bishops won't touch this issue and will NOT participate in this campaign."

A question for any Knights in attendance. My understanding is that KoC is essentially an independent Catholic organization. Hence, would be free to pursue this campaign notwithstanding.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

To the best of my knowledge, the K of C is a fraternal mutual benefit organization whose members must be practical Catholics in concert with the Holy See, fill out an application form 100 and be approved by the council for membership. The K of C is not a Catholic organization under the pope and his bishops. It's by a condition of membership that we live the faith and obey church laws as well as civil law too; however, the pope and local ordinary does not have jurisdiction over the organization that offers life, annuity and long-term care insurance products to its members. It would be safe to say that a state insurance commissioner has more authority over the K of C than a bishop or priest. It's probably one of the reasons why the K of C can't expel some pro-abortion politicians since there is a legal and fiduciary responsibly involved if that pro-abortion member owns a K of C insurance product. I'm not sure if they can mandate a member to be placed on inactive status or not.

We appoint our own chaplains, the bishops do not; however, since a priest reports to his bishop, the priest must ask permission from his Bishop to serve us. And if anyone knows which K of C entity (supreme, ny state council or a local council) owns the land on which Yankee Stadium stands since 1953 leased to the Yankees for a fee of $186,000 per year, let me know. If anything I wrote is incorrect please feel free to chime in.

Ahh...but don't forget that we do have an vow to support (and defend) our clergy and our Church. This would be a nice "legal" issue for the Supreme Advocate (along the lines of a 'supreme judge advocate general' for our non-KofC readers) to get involved in defining.
