A US military spokesman insists al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is behind more than 90 percent of suicide attacks in Iraq.
Major General Rick Lynch says the militant and his group "are real threats" to Iraq and the entire region.
The Washington Post reports today that some U-S military intelligence officials think the U-S has overstated al-Zarqawi's importance in the rebellion. The Post reports the military has a propaganda campaign to "magnify" al-Zarqawi's role to turn Iraqis against him and to link the war to Nine Eleven.
Lynch doesn't refer directly to the Post story, but mentioned that "a recent article" questions al-Zarqawi's importance. He says, "Nothing could be further from the truth." He says al-Zarqawi recruits, trains and equips the people who are responsible for most of the attacks.
Stupid article. Of course Zarqawi encourages suicide attacks, while the Baathist groups concentrates on IEDs. What evidence do we have that Baathists have ever done even one suicide bombing?
None, but try telling the Washington Post that.
Iraqis hate Al quaida more and more.....
and terrorists diminish their numbers.
