He hoped for any traitors to be hung...and if they are traitors, they should be.

No, you're trying to soften his remarks after the fact.

Hanging thousands from trees doesn't sound like something that would happen in our judicial system today. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.

In fact, I'd like to be reminded of the last time a judicial execution involved hanging from a tree. I'd guess never, but certainly not within the last 150 years.

Anyway, Travis had that dreamy forecast in his wishdreams. Thousands of Americans dangling from the White Oak tree. Damn quislings hired a Mexican bricklayer.

Hang 'em.

Sorry...we disagree entirly on how his comments are being characterized and construed.

As to your contention regarding hanging by a rope from a tree...it certainly has been much less than 150 yers (1856), IMHO, since someone was legally hung from a tree.

Having said that, I can look past the emotion of the moment, knowing Travis, and understanding what hisi intent was. He is a loyal American, has served his country faithfully under the Uniform Military Code, respects the constitution and his oath to it.

In a horrible civil war, there would be summary, military executions after tribunals, just like there were in the last one...which, BTW, was less than 150 years ago.

I will leave it for others to make their own determination regarding Travis's remarks, my comments, as one who knows him personally, stand as a witness regarding his honor and his position...despite the heat of the moment.

What you have to realize is if this came to pass {meaning a cultural civil war} todays judicial system would be no more. We would basically fall into third world anarchy. Not a pretty site. But I'm assuming like a few of us Travis has been in third world nations where the prevailing culture is in fact anarchy.

For example if you think Brazil is a civilized culture I can show you something that would make your blood run cold. How about 6 year olds living on the street orphaned and hardened enough to kill you? Try Salvador Brazil. Or how about a Communist nation where three factions literally hate each others guts and the only thing that kept the peace for 50 or so years was an iron fist dictator. That was Tito's Yugoslavia and I saw both. A world war started there remember?

I don't believe any poster in here is anti-legal immigration. There has to be some order to those wishing to live here including the desire to leave behind their culture as millions upon millions have done since our founding as a nation. So far though order is the last thing on most illegals minds entering this nation.

I'm old enough to remember the 1960's riots. If/when/ certain members of our population mostly other minorities find themselves being put out of work there is going to be major anger. Who will the angry ones go looking for? Oddly enough I would guess it would be three way mayhem. And I'm not calling for it . This is just what I see as being a likely outcome if the amnesty goes through and our borders are not secured. It's a real danger that many are not facing and again I think some see that threat.

Dog Gone, we have discussed at some length our views of why Travis said what he said. I would like to post, from Travis himself, his explanation and motivations, which are words that were written to me in an email.

I feel this is important. That we all should take the chance to read his explanation as he gave it to me, particularly since it is being discussed about him in the forum. It is not my intent to somehow cirumvent JR's decision...and hope it will not be taken that way. I am quoting him...but not posting for him. There is a huge difference.

Here is what he emailed me as explanation...

I'd like to state for the record my thinking and motivation in posting my "hanging Quislings" remarks. I honestly and sincerely see our nation driving straight into a bloody Balkan-style civil war on our present course. Perhaps it is my location 20 miles from the Mexican border which leads me to fear this more than folks who live far from the reality. Last night in San Diego, there was an arson attack against a Mexican restaurant with anti-Mexican graffiti sprayed on the outer walls. This is very big news locally, and is causing tensions to ratchet higher and higher. Yes, the Southwest is a tinderbox, and our so-called leaders in Washington seem to think that more gasoline is the answer.

My goal is to wake people up to the extreme danger I see ahead of us if we don't change our present course. As difficult as it will be to grasp the nettle and deal with the problem presented by the illegal alien invasion today, it will be harder or even impossible after ten to twenty million illegal aliens are granted amnesty and begin to bring in thirty or forty million family members. If this happens, then a bloody civil war for our Republic is guaranteed, in my humble opinion.

As far as my remarked about hanging the Quislings: the illegal alien invasion that is such a mortal threat to our Republic is driven by the greedy business owners who are willing to break the law and employ illegals. They provide the magnet that pulls the illegals into the USA, and if they stopped doing so, (as for example by the enforcement of laws already on the books), the invasion would stop and the danger of civil war would lessen.

However, if our leaders fail to see the danger caused by their failure to enforce current immigration laws, and worse, their offers of amnesty and all that will entail, then our nation is destined to experience a horrible and bloody civil, if not now, then in the coming years. Jeff, we both have teenage sons, and I do not want them to live the Balkan nightmare of a dirty civil war. If our nation is driven into this disaster through the malfeasance and negligence of our leaders, and the overriding greed of our illegal-alien-hiring businessmen, then I would like them to understand, that in the backwash of the horrors of a civil war, their roles in precipitating it will not be forgotten by those who survive it.

If it happens, this will be an entirely man-made civil war, where one side of the war is literally being imported in advance from a foreign nation, to fight it against Americans. If this civil war happens, I do believe that there will be natural consequences for those who caused it. I would like to warn them in advance, that there will be an overwflowing well of anger at them, for leading this nation on the path to self-destruction. They should consider this, and think about their actions, if not out of a love for their nation, than for their own longevity.

My intent is only to warn, in order to try to turn the ship called America away from the rocks that are directly ahead. Part of that warning must perforce be a warning to those presently steering the ship toward the rocks, that the passengers will not forget who drove the ship onto the rocks and ultimate destruction. Those steering the ship must understand that there will be consequences to their current misnavigation: they will be remembered. Not by me, or any particular individual. I'm nothing, one voice in the tempest. They will be remembered by the millions of Americans who lose their lands and family members, fighting a civil war that should never have had to be fought, where one side is literally being imported in advance to fight it.

There is still time to turn the ship, but I fear that nobody on the bridge is watching the radar or listening to the lookouts.

We live in interesting times, and I wish we did not.

Matt Bracken/Travis McGee
Again, these are words that Matt wrote to me in an email.
