What's wrong with plopping a kayak on top of your car and driving 30 minutes to a nearby lake or river? That's my idea of "boating". No gas. No noise. No drunk and obnoxious weekend warrior hydroplane racer wannabes.

The single most annoying thing about Lake Michigan during the summer is the "personal watercraft." And I don't mind the noise as much as the smell. When I was growing up everyone sailed Hobies. Now I can count them on one hand on a two mile walk along the beach.

The problem is that the public launch points are being bought out at a rapid pace.

Developers are cutting deals to keep public lauch points "public" in name only so they can have the developement rights.

It is like housing developers who agree to install a public park next to their high end developement HOWEVER the park has no parking spaces. (so only the people of the developement can really use the publicly maintained park)
