ROTTERDAM, Netherlands -- The new test for foreigners who want to apply for Dutch residency is, well, very Dutch.
It features a DVD that illustrates various aspects of Dutch life, including, most notably, a topless woman frolicking in the surf and two men kissing warmly. The message couldn't be more explicit: This is who we are; if you don't accept it, don't come.
Although the DVD doesn't single out any particular group, the intended target of the message is clear. Growing numbers of conservative Muslim immigrants are seen by many Dutch as posing a threat to the Netherlands' liberal consensus and easygoing lifestyle.
The Dutch are not alone. Britain and Germany are toying with the idea of citizenship tests that would examine cultural values of Muslim immigrants. In the wake of Sept. 11, the attacks in London and Madrid, and the Danish cartoon controversy, Europeans are struggling to come to grips with a widening culture gap between themselves and an increasingly alienated Muslim immigrant community.

High culture indeed.../sarc
Most of the crap on that DVD would just entice more illegals into our nation.
Yes we need to acquaint illegals with taxes, social insecurity, permits, licenses, law and order, medical insurance, English as our language, and a non corrupt government..we better hurry while we still have the semblences of the latter..
Seems to me that this type of stuff would make very religous people of many flavors want to save the Dutch, rather than avoid them.
Religion can be a kooky thing, somethimes.
" Not everyone sees it this way. Mesut Disli, a community activist who came to Rotterdam from Turkey, said that while he accepted the need for an entrance exam, he considered the scenes of nudity and homosexuality to be gratuitously offensive.
"They [Dutch officials] know that according to Islam, nudity and homosexuality are taboo. They know the feelings of Muslims on this subject. So, indirectly, they are saying that we are not welcome," he said."
Give that Turko a cigar!
They already SEE this daily in the culture in Amsterdam. Why would this DVD stop them?
This is all well and good, but if the Dutch dont want immigrants and dont have children, who exactly will take care of them when they are old?
And for the third time this week, I find myself wondering why the hell I haven't moved to the Netherlands yet.
Certainly the Muslims still want to go ther. They will continue to go there, and when they get strong enough its the dutch who wil be watching videos of the women of the Netherlands in Burka's.
Muslims dont go to countries to become what that country believes in they go to make a change , Its in their book.
The lesser of two evils....
This is all well and good, but if the Dutch dont want immigrants and dont have children, who exactly will take care of them when they are old?
Gee, do ya think the Muslims will take care of the Dutch when they're older. They will, but not in the way the Dutch would like 'em too. Embracing gay marriage, not having children, and inviting in Muslim immigrants is as close to commiting suicide as a socity can come.
I get to Amsterdam on Tuesday. I'll have to add this to my list of things to go see.
Right after windmills, tulips and cheese.
I like cheese.

Holland is special. It takes the application of greater dillegence to simply keep the place, period. IOW it must hold back the sea.
In the long run, the Dykes cannot be relied upon to maintain the dykes.
From what the world exhibits of muslim engineering, work ethic, economic results, they would likely allow the whole thing to go into disrepair, blaming the infidels.
Not the two guys kissing on the DVD.
